Cluster Sampling
Working in remote areas in Australia can be very difficult and challenging especially for the 1st-year residents. It is their first year of practical applications of their study and a chance of experiencing the real medical world. However, rural areas of Australia are harsh with aspects of limited access to the areas, limited access to adequate health resources and harsh living conditions (Kiani, Hadianfard, & Mitchell, 2017). Cluster sampling is an important research design characterised by the use of clusters or groups of the population and carrying out experiments on the clusters as samples of the entire population (Pu, Gao, Fan, & Wang, 2016).
In the research use of cluster samples of the 1st year resident medical students would be effective in understanding their feelings and attitudes towards working in such remote areas of Australia. It involves separation of the population into clusters and sampling carried out within the clusters. It is a technique effective to this research because it has a large target population caused by the vastness of rural areas in Australia (Kim, Park, & Lee, 2017).
