Abstract
Memorization is a fundamental cognitive process in an individual’s brain. Understanding how people memorize information has been a challenge for most authors. To understand this process, the functioning of the brain and neurological processes that occur when a person takes in information must be explored. Ideally, neuroinformatics has been established as the most relevant methods or models of understanding the process of memorization. However, the main questions are how memory is created, when it is created and how this cognitive process results in memorization. This paper summarizes Wang’s (2009) article titled “Formal Description of the Cognitive Process of Memorization.” The article mainly describes the process of memorization and how different neuroinformatics results in the cognitive process of memorization. The summary mainly focuses on how the author defines memory and memorization, the models used to describe memorization, how memory is created, when memory is created and how the creation of memory results in successful memorization.

Memory is defined as the networked neural clusters located in an individual’s brain that is used to retrieve and retain information. Memorization, on the other hand, is defined as a cognitive process in an individual’s brain that encodes and retains as well as reconstructs information in the long-term memory. Wang’s paper merely describes memorization as a cognitive process through the cognitive informatics theory of memory.
Wang describes the cognitive process of memorization using the Real-Time Process Algebra (RTPA), which is one of the fundamental inquiries on the mechanisms of brain and neural intelligence which is based on Layered Reference Model of the Brain (LRMB). The LRMB is developed through cognitive informatics. Based on this process of description, Wang explains that memorization as a cognitive process comprises knowledge representation (encoding), retention, retrieval and decoding of information. These three process leads to successful memorization when the same information decoded can be successfully retrieved or recalled.
Finally, Wang explains how memory is created. He states that the internal memory is in the form of Object Attitude Relation (OAR) which is normally updated by concept composition between OAR and the sub-OAR that are newly created. Through this process, sleeping can play an important role in the memorization process. Wang states that memory is created when a person is sleeping. Therefore, the cognitive process of memorization occurs during the neuroinformatics of the memory, which mainly occurs when a person is sleeping. In this regard, Wang illustrates how and when memory is created to describe the process of memorization in his article.
