Since my childhood, I have been motivated to help other people overcome poverty, stress, depression and other life issues through listening to them and providing support and encouragement. I believe the decision to become a counselor is based on my character. I am a compassionate person who can identify with the emotional pain of others. I am eager to provide genuine help to people. I believe I am attentive and a good listener which are skills necessary for this counseling profession. I am currently a student studying for an associate of arts degree where I have a GPA of 3.88. I have been on the vice presidents list due to my good academic performance. Additionally, I have currently been volunteering at a Senior Center doing yard work and grounds keeping. I have also been doing work study to help pay for college expenses and could use all the help I can get to achieve my career goals. I have also been a volunteer for the Arts festival held at the college and the local community theatre for my fraternity PHI THETA KAPPA (Sayette 96).
I seek admission to CSU to complete my major in Psychology and become a counselor to help other people achieve their life goals. I intend to help people with depression, anxiety, or abuse of substances to overcome these issues and live a life that is fuller and nourishing by maintaining coherence in their social relationships. My short-term goal is to gain the training and skills that are vital to becoming a counselor.
