Maxine Waters as a congresswoman adds to the list of the greatest influential and powerful women in the current American politics. Her legislative leadership has been evident through the 37 years of offering public service. Known for her no-nonsense and tackling of various controversial issues, she has played a part in holding responsibility in different legislative mandates in California. According to Clay (2018), her primary concern to the American people revolves around the elimination of the wealth gap, increased minority business ownership, diversification and inclusion of the minority in the Federal jobs and their inclusion in the private sector. Since her election in November 2016 to serve for her fourteenth term, fighting for rights of women veterans has one of her most significant achievements.
Her Views and Policy Choices
Congresswoman Maxine holds different views regarding the inclusion of women and minority groups in leadership through which she believes that every woman or minority group should be included in the federal jobs in America. She believes that there is the need for consumer protection. It is the primary reason as to why she co-sponsored the Credit Cardholders’ Bill of Rights which has ensured that cardholders are protected against the excessive fees and arbitrarily increased interest rates. Regarding policies, she has given much concern on the immigration policies through which she advocates for the effective plans to meet the citizenship needs of those who meet the various stringent immigration requirements (Clay, 2018).

She has also offered amendments towards the provision of treatment for those who suffer from substance abuse disorders which are believed to help in the access expansion to the Medicaid.
Opinion on current issues
Various evident current issues in the United States involve Trump’s policy to separate children from their respective parents at the American border and the decision to strip the coverage for the pre-existing conditions. In a press release on 20th June 2018, she condemned the decision to separate children from their parents citing it as inhumane and immoral. Concerning the decision to strip the pre-existing conditions coverage, she mentioned that the decision was harmful primarily to the African Americans (Clay, 2018). In a press release on 14th June 2018, she indicated that African Americans are much affected by cancer and other serious diseases, and thus the decision to strip the protections would be unavoidably devastating (Clay, 2018).
