Over nurture – Am I Too Involved in Everything My Child Does? https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-age-overindulgence/201811/overnurture-am-i-too-involved-in-everything-my-child-doesSummary
The article explores various ways parents should act in order to raise a child to become a law abiding and self-sustaining member of the community (Bredehoft, 2018). There are various myths and misconceptions that the article seeks to put to right perspective as they can affect the wellbeing of the child in his development. The article also gives some advice to the parents as a way to help in the upbringing of the child.
Cultural Implications of the Advice
The parenting advice on the article is that the parents should not overindulge in their children’s activities. Most parents over indulge without realizing it, for example, doing most of the child’s homework and being overprotective. The advice here is that the parents should not over nurture their children when parenting. This is a good advice as per the research done on children, who are over nurtured. The implication of over nurturing is that it can lead to certain skills in life not being reflected in the child (Bredehoft, 2018). The child might not have good decision-making skills, communication might be a problem as well as time and money management might be a problem. This is because the child has grown up depending on the parents to do the decision making for them. The effect of not over nurturing your child is that the parent does not have adequate time with the child hence he or she may engage in activities which do not conform to the society’s code of morals like drug abuse.

Wait! Cultural Psychology paper is just an example!

Parents should also strike conversations with their children as they are growing up as this enhances their interpersonal skills as well as their communication. There is also the effect of performing well in school as the child has already mastered the language. The implication of the conversations between the parent and the child is that it serves as a stepping stone for the child to open up about issues affecting them in the future. The communication enhances the idea that problems can be solved, when you share it with someone, maybe a close friend or family (Bredehoft, 2018). This reduces the chances that the child might develop mental health, when faced with a challenge. The parents encouraged a culture of sharing your experiences hence people around you will listen and help reducing greatly the chances of failure rather than a person, who keeps to himself.
There is also an issue of how parents should manage the amount of screen time their children have. The parents should govern their children to as little time of screen time as possible possibly an hour per day. The implication of this strategy is that it enhances the child’s time management in the future as he is accustomed to having less screen time. The amount of screen time can be directly proportional to the level of success you have in the future. The parent who controls the screen time of the child can open numerous opportunities to the child such as playing basketball or football in order to nurture his talents outdoors. The child watching too much television can become lazy as it takes up much of his time as he was accustomed to having more hours on screen in the past. Another advice is that parents should show emotions of happiness or empathy when dealing with children (Bredehoft, 2018). The child’s brain is developing hence it is of uttermost important that the child need to show these emotions when faced with a situation. The emotions are the signs that the child can communicate with other people in the future by use of the different emotions learnt from the parent. This enhances the interpersonal involvement with different person’s they are going to meet and the society in general.
Conclusion
The parenting advice from the article is of great importance to the parents for them to raise their child in manner that the society will be proud of. The parents are the person’s that the child look up to when growing up and hence they tend to replicate the behavior seen in their parents and hence follow that behavior as a rule hence my question is at what point will the parent be satisfied that the child is growing up to be moral in the eyes of the society.
