Addressing Social Problems
Child abandonment is an issue that has affected children since time immemorial although recent pressures from the demands of modern life have increased this problem by many folds. Abandonment is a form of child abuse, and the latter is any act action committed by another individual, whether a child or an adult, that causes substantial harm to a child. Abandonment leads to a lack of love, attention and care might contribute to abuse to a child. It has been established that neglect, irrespective of the form, is just as harmful to a child as physical abuse. When children experience abandonment, neglect the wounds pierce their soul and run much deeper than emotional scars. Such children are likely to suffer from frequent trauma, feeling of loneliness, anxiety, worthless, unlovable, and a complete opposite of what one would expect a child to feel. An abandoned child becomes broken, empty and bitter, with a possible emergence of mental problems.
Abused children feel lonely, timid and skeptical, and these are often the automatic psychological impacts, which can translate to long-term negative effects, such as irredeemable self-esteem issues, depression, and the inability to establish healthy relationships (Nelson, Nathan and Charles 64). When the stress of parenthood is mixed with problems from other sources, and then parents who lack the skills of coping with the issues in a sound way shall simply disintegrate.

In fact, their tempers shall always control their minds in times of crisis. Only a radical solution for the problem can have a far-reaching impact. The problem can be solved using a combination of both resources and laws. Resources are directed towards the short-term solution, whiled the policies should solve long-term problems. Laws should be enacted that encourage compulsory used of contraceptives to couples who are unable to care for a child.
A sustainable care gamut structure for treating and thwarting child abandonment and neglect should entrenched in a national framework. When the country or a group of nations ratify an agreement protecting the rights of minors, the countries are essentially taking the necessary steps in averting child neglect and abandonment. The country should take the necessary legal measures in crafting programs that protect children and harshly punish perpetrators of child neglect and abandonment. Moreover, when one is backed by limitless funds, then one should be involved in political campaigns that call for the election of individuals who have the best interest of the child at heart. Often, children issues have been forgotten in political campaigns, yet children remain the most vulnerable voiceless segment of the population, whose plight can only be carried on by adults.
With limitless resources, implementations of good policies and services that are based on practice and evidence-based data is the other way of tackling child neglect and abandonment from the bird’s eye view. A framework of detection, reporting and halting of child abandonment and neglect should be set. All the professionals engaged with children should be empowered in certain ways in detecting child neglect and abandonment. Sufficient reporting systems should be properly executed within the entire nation and in the gamut of care for handling child neglect and abandonment. Different mechanisms should allow the public that are close to children to talk to guardians about the signs of neglect and abandonment and inform the authorities about the situation of the child.
