Obstacles to Education in the Society
Introduction
Apparently, education is a key sector in all economies of the world. It is through education that a country can either be classified as developed, developing, or underdeveloped. The primary reason behind such classification is the fact that a country whose citizens are well educated is likely to create more employment opportunities. Additionally, the educated sector increases the scope of innovations and inventions in diverse sectors of the economy.
Obstacles to Education in the Society
What are some of the main challenges that people face in their quest for education? Many people in the present world face many challenges when pursuing education. There are many obstacles that can hinder one from getting the education that is desired. Such challenges are rooted in the current society that we live. Most people who face the most obstacles are those in the poor backgrounds and low life suburbs. Education is not a smooth path; students encounter several obstacles before they finally manage to finish their studies. Among the major challenges faced in education are discussed below:
Lack of Enough Resources
Education is an expensive venture that requires a lot of resources. These resources are needed for the education system to be successful. The resources vary according to the different needs of the students and the teachers. We have material resources, financial resources, and personal resource.

All these are ideal for ensuring that there is a smooth and efficient flow of knowledge from the teachers to the students (Bond 19).
Material resources that are required for the smooth running of education systems are quite enormous. They include books, journals, the institution of learning and games and recreational equipment. Students from low-income families lack enough money to pay for the teaching services which are increasing day by day. This has forced many students to succumb to the pressure of quitting their education to look for employment to supplement this. A research done by the University of Michigan shows that children from deprived backgrounds take long to graduate than those from the wealthy backgrounds.
Lack of enough resources, therefore, is a great obstacle to the attainment of quality and strong education. There are many places where trained teachers are inadequate, and they cannot supplement the number of students in a school. Poor school networks and lack of finances to run the education systems are part of the obstacles that are hindering the access to education by many students.
Poor Time Management
Time is one of the most significant factors that need to be greatly utilized in the education setting. Time is a great contributor to the success or failure when pursuing ones dream in education. Poor utilization of this great resource in training can result in adverse effects to the learners. The introduction of extra curriculum activities in the schools is some of the things that can consume a lot of time for the students (Bond 16).
Several students are unable to plan their tight schedule to their education timetable. For instance, the case of working students has mushroomed in most parts of the country. Many students have ventured into part-time jobs to supplement their needs and to finance their education. In some cases, these students are unable to meet the busy schedule. This, therefore, leaves little time for their educational needs.
Separation from Families
The family is one of the fundamental entity for the mental and psychological development of any individual. In the modern days, there has been the introduction of boarding schools where students are expected to live in a school for a specified period. This annihilates student from their parents and other family members.
Most students are negatively affected by this move. Coping in a new environment close supervision of family members can be a bit daunting. Research has proved that many students will be thinking about their family members back home. Some even contemplate on running away from school. For some students, they may choose to be to engage in illegal activities such as drug abuse and crime as they have less supervision from their parents. All these can be obstacles to their education (Bond 17).
Majority of students are also under pressure to perform better. Most of the students are under pressure from their parents, the school and even their sponsors to perform better. The output that the school puts on the students in return needs to be supplemented by good results. On the other hand, students work out so much to appease both their parents and the sponsors. This affects student’s ability. A stressful environment is not suitable for better grades in the school. Research has proven that many students are depressed after failing in their exams, and also they felt more depressed and pressured when exams are done. This creates negative impacts.
The path to the educational success is not an easy one. Most students are facing numerous challenges which have made them unable to realize their dreams. There are many obstacles, and it needs general intention from all stakeholders before drawing any conclusion. We should all remember that for any successful person in the education sector one must strive to work hard to overcome the many challenges in the field. It requires persistence and motivation on how best to overcome the difficulties (Bond 20).
Insecurity and Political Instability
The political climate in a country plays a major role in ensuring that education in the society is guaranteed. For instance, when there is political turbulence in a state, the learning process in institutions is likely to be paralyzed and hence resulting in the poor quality education system. Additionally, in one way or another, politics have the upper hand regarding government policies in ensuring that there is proper allocation of funds to the education sector as well as the formulation of policies that are relevant and efficient in promoting the quality of learning (Bond 27).
On the other hand, security is a major concern for quality education to take place. Primarily, both the learners and the teachers require a conducive and safe environment to ensure the learning process is smooth and uninterrupted. However, once there are cases of insecurity, fear will be on the rise and even it may result in the injury or even death of the teachers and the students. With such happening of events, the education process is likely to stagnate and hence resulting in unprogressive societies (Bond 27).
Exclusion of Children with Disability
Disability is not inability! This is a phrase that has been overlooked in most societies. The consideration of those children with disability is minimal, and they are not given the opportunity to access educational materials and facilities like their counterparts. Discrimination is against the human rights and is, in fact, a trespass before the eyes of the Lord. Once the disabled are left out in education by the society, there is likely to increase the level of illiteracy in the society, and hence it will be retarded and poorly developed. Therefore, societies should consider educating the people with different forms of disability by taking them to special schools which are specifically meant for the disabled such as the blind, deaf, and the disabled (Bond 28). After all, it is their human and constitutional right to receive the quality education and refuse any form of intimidation.
Hunger and Poor Nutrition
Additionally, human beings require proper feeding for survival. In cases where learners experience hunger, education is not likely to take place because students cannot learn with empty stomachs. In addition to that, the diet that the children also eat commonly referred to as nutrition is also paramount. A balanced diet is necessary for proper growth and normal functioning of the body. Overfeeding and underfeeding is likely to cause somebody complications which may hinder the learner from accessing the educational centres thus limiting learning.
Conclusion
In summary, all stakeholders in the education sector including the government, parents, and students should, therefore, advocate for ways in which such challenges can be dealt with to promote quality and adequate education for our children and the next generation. If these challenges are not checked, we may end up having an illiterate generate in the near future.
