The evolution of supply chain management (SCM) can be traced back to the 1940s and 1950s. SCM has an objective of accomplishing sustainable advantage, by maximizing the value of the customers through proper management of the supply chain activities. (Stadtler, 2015). It presents the hard work done by firms in the supply chain industry to ensure they run efficiently and effectively. The various activities under supply chain include logistics, development of management information systems for coordination, sourcing, production, and development of a product. (Stadtler, 2015). The named above activities are all used in the evaluation of the evolution of SCM.
On the future of SCM, it is based on the latest computer technology that was later introduced in the 80s. These innovation advances can give an enormous incentive intending to customary production network and coordination’s regions, for example, warehousing and conveyance, transportation, and assembling coordination’s. (Christopher, 2016). There are amazingly important bits of knowledge to be picked up by methodically considering the inventory network and coordination’s performance of organizations over different businesses and nations.
Achieving network approach in supply chains is possible. Supply chain deals with the process of distribution of services and products to the customers. There has to be a connection between the material flow and the physical flow.
