It is estimated that there are more than 300 million animals in Europe that live caged throughout their lives. The truth is that animal cages are really harmful to their health, it is a cruel and unnecessary way to prevent them from enjoying their freedom and making their most basic behaviors. That is why European citizens have joined to make the greatest request for the well -being of farm animals.

No more cages is the name of the initiative that has been presented at Congress. Its purpose is to achieve changes in the laws of the continent with the objective of ending this injustice and prohibiting the use of cages throughout the European Union.

The great initiative was beginning in September 2018 and so far there are more than one million people who have joined the Board of Signatures. The initiative was promoted by Compassion in World Farming and another 170 animal protectionist organizations.

This September 12 was the deadline granted by the EU to make it with signatures and the 1.5 million figure exceeded wide margin to the expected. The next step will be to present the signatures formally and the European Commission will begin to discuss the elimination of cages in farms.

Why this project is important

Animals like rabbits, pigs or chickens spend their lives in sterile and tiny cages where they can barely turn. These animals do not have the possibility to stretch their wings, ears, legs, jump or walk.

Bringing a life of total stress and suffering, they end up often hurt by their own colleagues or even automate.

Fear leads them to shake when they see how they take their teammates to kill them and at the time of their turn they try to escape desperately.

The small size of the cages ends up causing in chickens, rabbits and other animals health problems such as weakness in their bones and osteoporosis. For this and many reasons, Europeans have decided to say enough animal abuse and have not hesitated to join the greatest coalition with the hope that this initiative will achieve their fruits.

All animals deserve a dignified and cruel -free life. There is no justification for this method of confinement and torture. That is why it is important that all citizens are together to say no to this great injustice.
