In spiritual terms, piety can be explained as a virtue which comprises, spirituality, religious devotion or a combination of the two. For most concepts of piety, it has a common element that is humility. It can also be defined as the reverence and devotion to which somebody has to God and religious practices. This virtue cannot be thought but has to be gained either spiritually either through spiritual means.
For this definition of piety Socrates will find this unsatisfying and nonconformist with his interpretation, this is because as per Socrates the virtues of piety should be same with the description of those virtues which I have used described it. He also identifies that the existing knowledge with morality in public is not conclusive hence cannot be applied to any situation. In his view, piety can be taught and not gained as I have stated above. Socrates says that people should seek education as a mean of having ethics and piety (Hadot, Pierre, 99). The way Socrates has differed with Euthyphro definition of piety when he states determined by gods is the way I think he will respond to my interpretation. Socrates says that this cannot be true because how come all gods agree that all things are pious, while what is just to other gods is unjust to others gods, and what is beautiful to other gods will not be to another god. From the definition which I have provided about piety, Socrates will find it out that, piety cannot be spiritual since gods are always in a state of disharmony with each other hence they will give the different versions of piety.

Thus devotion cannot be only dear to gods but must always be something else from the definition which I have provided. Therefore piety cannot just be defined regarding spiritual or religious terms since this cannot be possible.
