Every year Earth is losing a certain species of wildlife. This has a significant impact on the ecosystem, hence humans should be concerned. The death of the last specimen of a species is known as extinction CITATION Ben141 l 1033 (Bensel & Turk, 2014). It mainly occurs when species no longer have the ability to survive in the changing environment or compete with superior species. Due to the ecological relationship established between species, the extinction of a specific species can be quite disastrous to the ecology (The National Academies Press, 2010). This paper will analyse the reason why humans should be concerned with the high rate of extinction and the reason why preservation of the remaining specimen is essential.
In the recent past, scientists have recorded an increase in the rate of extinction. They estimate that by 2100 nearly half of the animals and plants will be extinct. The cause of extinction varies from human causes like pollution to genetic and demographic factors. This has made extinction a critical topic for zoologists CITATION Ben141 l 1033 (Bensel & Turk, 2014). Their increased interest is for the stability of the ecosystem, genetic resources and ethics. Extinction has a significant impact on the balance of the ecosystem. Due to the correlation of species in an ecosystem, the extinction of one species has the potential to cause the extinction of other species. This, in turn, affects the resilience of the ecosystem, which is bound to harm humans in the end.

Wait! Extinction paper is just an example!

This has led conservationists to preserve samples of some biomes. They believe that through their DNA technological advancements they can ‘bring back to life’ some extinct species through cloning. Humans should strive to preserve biomes through the storage of genetic content of all species in DNA databanks CITATION Ben141 l 1033 (Bensel & Turk, 2014).
