Google Incorporation is a technological company that was founded in 1998 by Larry page and Sergey Brin. The company was started as a search engine company, and this search engine receives over 70% of the online search requests that are performed by people around the globe today. The company is a subsidiary of the Alphabet Incorporation, which is a holding company, but its headquarters are located in Mountain View, California. The company has grown to provide more than 50 internet services and products such as e-mail services, online document creation services, and software used for phones and tablets. The size of the company and its broad product portfolio has made it one of the most influential companies within the high-tech industry, along with IBM, Microsoft, and Apple. However, the search engine has remained the core of the success of the company, despite the wide range of products. In 2011, the company gained 97% of its revenue from advertisements that were based on users’ search requests. This massive growth is based on the company’s mission, which mandates the company to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.
Other than the mission statement that the company follows, the company has stated some beliefs that are used to the company called the “Ten Things We Know to Be True.” The company believes in focusing on the consumer of Google products, and all other things will follow. The environment that the company has provided makes the employees feel very comfortable at work. Since the company has employed most of the technology geniuses in the market, it has the mandate of providing the best environment in which these people will remain loyal to the company without thinking about moving to competitors such as Microsoft, Apple, and IBM. The company has provided bicycles and electric cars that are used by employees to get to meetings, organic gardens, gaming centers, and eco-friendly furnishings, to provide easier lives for their employees.
Google treats its employees with utmost respect and supports their innovative and creative staff. According to the Fortune magazine, Google has provided new parents, regardless of the gender, with a twelve weeks period of a fully paid baby bonding period. The expectant mothers are always given a 22 weeks maternity leave. This is one of the best paid parental leaves for new parents since the company cares about the new parents and thus offering parents a one-on-one consultation. On the other hand, the company provides on-site nurses, physicians, medical services and a good health coverage so as to keep their staff healthy and happy. Emergency assistance and travel insurance is also awarded to all the employees, and they can be used for both work related vacations and personal vacations. Death benefits are also awarded to the deceased employees families.
Google provides a global education leave program that enables an employee to pursue further education, and the company covers the education costs. As a well-known technology company, the company offers its staff with better job prospects in case they opt to leave Googleplex. Moreover, it offers growth within the company at all levels of management. As a high-tech company, it always hires the best and the brightest minds. Hence, the employees are usually exposed to these amazing and intelligent thinkers. Being around this genius promotes the creative working environment, disruptive innovation, and collaboration with other employees. Also, the company offers the employees with a very innovative working environment cultures. The focus on innovation has made the company to develop the nine principles of innovation. These principles have led to the development of products such as the Google Maps Street View, Google Alerts, and the Google News.
Despite being a the United States based company, it has employees from all over the world and does not discriminate any person despite the gender, ethnic background, social class or race. The company consists of 28% women who are employed in the company and hold some managerial posts. However, there exist 1% of African-American employee, 18% Asian employees, 38% Caucasian and 1% Hispanic. Despite having approximately forty-five thousand US-based employees, the above statistics show a representation of other groups of people from around the globe. The company has set up Non-discrimination policies that protect an employee from discriminating another staff member due to a difference in races, gender or managerial position. Employee diversity is very important at Google since the company strives to employ the best and most intelligent employees who are all over the world. In this case, the company has provided the Non-discrimination rules to give those employees from different parts of the globe to work as a team and not to discriminate one another.
As a student pursuing a career that relates to technology, one should aim at working for a company such as a Google in order to gain the vast experience that the company and the employees have. Google CEO, Sundar Pichai, is a very good role model for a student aspiring to be successful in the technology industry. He and the hard working staff have led the company to be where it stand at this particular time.
