Healthcare around the World
According to the “Sick around the World,” there are some similarities in the “healthcare delivery system in the United States” and the countries that are portrayed in the clip. The United States has the health insurance coverage, the Affordable Care Act, just like the other countries except that the insurance coverage in the US does not cover for all the citizens. And also most of the healthcare delivery systems in the video depend on the taxes from the public just like the Affordable Care Act in the US. Unfortunately, the Affordable Care Act is only meant for some specific group of people in the US.
The difference between the healthcare delivery system is that the Affordable Care Act is not developed in the US since most people did not embrace it. In the UK, however, the level of healthcare is very advanced, and the government has taken full control over the healthcare delivery to all the citizens in the country. The quality of the healthcare provided is also high, and most importantly, the citizens don’t pay the medical bills since the government caters for all of them (Palfreman Np). This is different from the US where people pay the bills by themselves hence making it difficult for the citizens to afford the medical bills especially those who have low income. On the same note, the UK hospitals compete to survive and to keep the patients healthy while the US hospitals compete to make a profit. In Japan, the healthcare delivery system is cheaper, and the patients have the privilege to make health consultation with the doctors of their own choice, and the consultation is done more frequently.

The Japanese also book appointment whenever they want to see a doctor. The prices of medication are also moderated so that there is no overcharge done by the doctors (Palfreman Np). The Japanese also have some machines used for scanning hence helping in the improvement of the medication done in the country. In addition, when a citizen loses his/her job, s/he does not lose the insurance cover in Japan, unlike the US where one is transferred to the community insurance when s/he loses the job (Novick and Shi 6). The Germans are also provided with free medication just like the UK and Japan, and also in Germany, the money used in the medical sector in the country is obtained from the taxes that the people in the country pay. Citizens in Switzerland and Taiwan equally have cheap and effective medication, and they also use the insurance health care coverage as compared to the US.
When comparing the healthcare system of Canada and the US, we realize that the Federal Government of Canada is involved in the collection of funds and providing the provincial government that in turn offer the insurance coverage to the patients. This is contrary to the US where the Federal Government provides healthcare on their own as well as the national government. Some of the things that the US can learn from the Canadian healthcare system are the coordination of funds between the federal government and the national government to enhance the better medical care. The Canadians can also learn on how to major on the health of the elderly and the poor people in their country as it is experienced in the US (Novick and Shi 15). The other country is France where the healthcare is majorly funded by the government while the patients subsidize with a small amount. The US government can learn on how to subsidize the healthcare bill for the patients. The US can as well teach them about the ACA.
