Grimm’s fairy tales is a collection of hundreds of folktales gathered all over Europe. Jacob and Wilhelm commonly referred to as the Grimm brothers were born in the city of Kassel in the 18th century. They left an outstanding legacy from their well-known told stories of then. Being linguistic scholars and German researchers, they spent most of their time as underpaid academics with little realization that one day their work would bring fame. Their first work was published in 1812. Their work was of great significance towards the societal set up of those days became it came up during a time when German national consciousness had come to rise. Also, the awakening of nationalist aspirations had begun. Gemma was a feminist who utilized some of these stories to boost morale during the era of world war two. Gemma was a role model since she could put up with low salary compared to the male counterparts while being in the front to fight pressure aimed at diluting the roles mostly relating to women or females in general. All this was happening during the error when men were busy fighting with women performing jobs once known to be of menfolk’s domain. During this time, women were working in factories surprisingly enough making bombs and bullets.
From Gemma work, it can be concluded that there is more just a single way to participate in a war. This is evidenced by the production of the propaganda films that worked to generate almost all the sides involve in the conflict during World War II.

This was of great significance since it could sway the public opinion in a significant government position and bolster morale. For instance, the ministry of information could regulate news to monitor the general moods as the war raged on. This could help stirring of the spirits regardless of their homes being assaulted from bombing activities besides losing the loved ones in war.
I find it very wise to use these fairy tales during world war II simply because the incidences portrayed in the tales was precisely a reflection of what people were undergoing during this time of war. The tales represented some form of struggle aimed at humanizing barbaric and bestial forces. All these effects to some extent have been found to terrorize our communities and minds in concrete ways. This poses a threat to the destruction of human compassion and the free will. This portrays similar struggles faced during the war. Therefore, as the fare tales set out to overcome these terrors through metaphors, so are the people taking part in the war.
Sleeping beauty can be defined as being a heartbreaking memory tale that is haunting to the family. Briar rose for this case can be considered a contemplative novel that brings out the pink triangle laws reviled by the Nazis. This is similar to learning of sadness that is related to the Gemma’s past. This raw truth could be a powerful tool for the world warfighters to stay focused.
Similar to war, a tale has both the dark and the light side. In the Briar Rose by Grimm brothers, the king and queen had plenty of things but lacked a child. This can compare to people who have a country but lack the freedom. In one of the versions, the queen walks by the riverside before meeting a poor fish by the riverbank. She took pity on the hopeless fish and flung it back to the water. It said that before swimming away, the fish lifted its head and said ’I know what your wish is, and it shall be fulfilled, in return for your kindness to me–you will soon have a daughter (Grimm, 16).’This is a metaphor that can impact on warfighters. It could boost their morale and energy to fight since it reminds them not to lose hope because what they are struggling to achieve will be realized with time only if they remained persistent without losing faith.
The king and queen at the end gave birth to a baby girl that brought them a lot of joy. This would signify a happy ending besides the struggles one has undergone. This acts as a reminder that one should never lose hope at any point. This is no different for Gemma whose background can be regarded as being a mystery to the family. This can be supported by her words to Becca that the bedtime story told to her every time is no fantasy. Josef revealed to Becca that Gemma was among the lucky survivors amongst many Jews gassed to death. This left her satisfied as she had successfully fulfilled her grandmother’s promise. This is no different from the tale by the Grimm brothers. In general, if one goes through the brother’s collection, cannot fail to recognize dark themes such as premarital sex, graphic violence, antisemitism, wicked mothers and child abuse. Tales are meant to address these issues to the society to bring light. Therefore, tales can be considered as excellent educative tools.
