Comparison of the Short Stories Lusus Naturae and St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves
The short stories entitled Lusus Naturae by Margaret Atwood and St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves by Karen Russel are exciting tales. These two stories can get compared since they possess similar characteristics in the written content. By exploring the themes in the tales, it is possible to highlight the significant comparisons.
Firstly, the stories are similar because they each use a female as the main character. These girls get exposed to different environments of growth but possess same traits. In the first story as well as the second one the girls have features that are not human-like. For example, in the first tale, the girl who was born by a healthy human mother is diagnosed with the disease Lusus Naturae making her have red fingernails, pink teeth, and hairy face. She scares people who do not want to have a close association with her (Atwood n.p). The doctor says she is like a monster.
On the other hand, the second story is of girls who come from a family of wear wolves. Their behavior at the home of the nuns is unlike human mannerisms as they jump from bed to bed like animals. Additionally, aspects of the significance of being enlightened get found in the two stories (Russell 4). In the first one, the father insisted that she has to know how to study while in the second one she goes to another home with the nuns to get exposed to a better culture.

The concept of isolation is equally evident in the two stories. In the first tale, the girl is isolated by her family members who seclude her because of her deadly illness while the girls in the second tale are sent to the nuns home by their parents for good.
