Positions of leadership
Due to my active participation in sports and good grades in class, I was privileged to be appointed the games captain in 11th grade. In this role, I organized and helped to co-ordinate inter-class and interschool friendly tournaments; especially for basketball and swimming.
Besides, in intermediate school, I was a class prefect from grades 7 through to 9. In this position, I was tasked with upholding discipline and liaising with the teachers and students to ensure a smooth learning experience every week.
Also, in the small club that my friends and I started, I am the organizing secretary. It is my duty to organize friendlies and get the kids registered for charity events to expose them to potential sponsors and partners.
Finally, I coordinate the monthly street cleaning activities that the youths from my neighborhood participate in.
Creative interests
I love making pencil sketches and painting whenever I get some time away from class work and sports. Just like sports, sketching and painting help me to remain constructive; keeping me away from vices like drug abuse and crime that claimed the lives of several teens in my country every year.
I am also learning how to make animations using software like Adobe Photoshop and 3Ds Max.
Besides, I play the guitar a lot. In fact, I cannot go for three days without dedicating at least 5 hours to improving my guitar skills. It is an interest I developed in middle school when I started hanging out a lot with my musician cousins.

Sporting Activities
The first sport I ever learned was football. It is the most popular game in Iraq and is seen as one of the factors that unite the people and help them forget, even for a moment, about the terrible years of war the country has experienced.
I also swim regularly. I started doing it for fun in public swimming pools when I was in Primary school but converted the hobby into a sporting activity in secondary school. I swim at least once every week.
Third, I play table tennis whenever I chill with friends who belong to the Iraqi Table Tennis Association at their training grounds. It is a sport I actively took part in Intermediate school.
Lastly, I try to make sure that I play basketball at least twice a month. This is because most of the people I hang out with do not play it that much.
Service to community
My mother owns a grocery supplies business. Ever since I joined the secondary school, I have been helping out with deliveries and stock keeping whenever I can. A week rarely ever goes by without me being actively involved in some transactions related to this business. In fact, since I completed secondary education, I have been running most of the business operation. I intend to do this until I join college.
Further, together with my friends from high school, we set up a small football club where we train kids between the ages of 10 and 15 who are interested in improving their football skills and keeping themselves busy and entertained. At the moment, we only have three footballs, a few boots, and about 15 cones. In the future, if we manage to get good enough partners, we hope to provide the kids with better equipment, and possibly increase the number of sporting activities that take place at the club.
In addition, every month, I join several other youths in cleaning up the streets of my city. The war left a lot of places untidy. Therefore, we take it upon ourselves to do the much we can to try and make the city clean again.
Lastly, I actively participate in the activities of the Middle-Eastern Sustainable Peace Organization (MESPO). Through this youth-led organization, I help promote peace and build cultural bridges for a more tolerant society.
