The life imprisonment is a deprivation of indefinite liberty, which is normally imposed as a condemnation of a serious crime, and that can imply deprivation of liberty for life. The life imprisonment has been one of the most controversial controversies that has existed in Colombia in which there are many opinions divided by society where many are in favor that are implemented and many disagree with this implementation. Therefore, this text aims to explain why it is convenient that in Colombia the life imprisonment for crimes against humanity is adopted.

In the first place, it can be noted that in Colombia, violence and sexual abuse against children have increased markedly. In conclusion, it can be reaffirmed that it is convenient to implement the life imprisonment for crimes against humanity since its purpose is the search for social control as a protection function for all individuals in society.
