Drugs of various types, legal and illegal, medicinal and non-medicinal, can be used in inappropriate ways that can expose the users to the risks. Drugs abuse refers to the act of using any drug in contrast with prescriptions for personal reasons. Globally, this has become an n issue of great concern especially among the youths in schools and in their occupations. An estimate of 5.3% of the population in the world in the year 2015 was associated with the use of the illegal drug. There are adverse effects that have been established alongside drug abuse on the health, social life and economic aspects of the victims. The causes of drug abuse include peer pressure among friends, family and social disputes leading to low esteem, lack of adequate information, and indolence. To cope with this, discussion on the causes, effects and mitigation measures of this issue would be vital. Great efforts should be put to rehabilitate, teach and device remediation strategies for the affected people.

Introduction
Drug abuse and smuggling, in the recent past, have become a serious issue globally with the youths as the main victims. An estimate of 5.3% of the population in the world in the year 2015 was associated with the use of the illegal drugs. In the year 2016, the statistics show that 99.7% of the drug users used legal drugs while 79.

Inappropriate use of the drugs is dangerous and may lead to addiction and even death among the victims. The causes of the drug abuse and the possible control measure are of great importance.
People use drugs for personal reasons other than the primary works meant for it. Others do use the prohibited rugs which have been banned by the government for various reasons. The effects of these drugs will be discussed in this study, which extends to health, economic and social aspects of the issue.
This is a topic of concern since the youths hold the larger energetic and potential percentage of the population yet they are the most affected.
To cope with this, discussion on the causes, effects and mitigation measures of this issue would be vital.
Effects, causes, and control of drug abuse
Effects
Many people in the quagmire argue that drugs make them enjoy the life as they use them (Wish et al., 2010). Despite the enjoyment that comes along, the negative impacts on the health, economic and social status of the person may be adverse (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2017). These drugs also affect the working environment and at times lead to loss of employment or venture the victim has invested in. The social life of the victim has affected ergo family and friends relationships break up. Consequently, the victims suffer depression and stigma and rejection which eventually may lead to low self-esteem. In extreme cases, death cases due to suicide or murder among other serious vices like engagement in crimes occur (Valenstein et al., 2012). The drug addicts have less concern about the diet they take and hygiene issues which pose much threat to their lives since they become prone to various diseases.
Causes
The causes of drug abuse vary among the victims. They include peer pressure among friends, family and social disputes leading to low esteem, lack of adequate information, and indolence (Wish et al., 2010).
Control measures/Solutions
To mitigate this issue support and rehabilitation services to the addicts should be availed at the local, regional, state and global level (Valenstein et al., 2012). Youth empowerment is key and creation of employment. Additionally, education on the necessity of proper adherence to the prescriptions on the medicinal drugs as well as the repercussions of drugs abuse.
Conclusion
Misappropriate use of the medicinal and non-medicinal drugs whether legal or illegal is detrimental to the lives of the users.
Drug abuse is common in the current world, especially among the youths due to various factors. It is of great concern due to the adverse effects it has on the health, social life and economic aspects of the victims.
Great efforts should be put to rehabilitate, teach and device remediation strategies for the affected people.
