Given that the phases are numbered in chronological order describe Venus’s motion through space?
Form the arrangement of the phases; it can be noted that the section of the Venus that is illuminated takes a crescent shape and gradually the area illuminated by the sun increases in size as it orbits around the sun. In between phase 1 and 5, the area illuminated by the sun appears to take the gibbous shape then proceeds to be fully lit then to half lit and finally back to crescent shape as it moves further away from the earth.

During retrograde motion, Venus is usually far from the Earth.
What is the phase of Venus during retrograde motion? Why is Venus so bright at that time?
During retrograde motion of Venus, its phase is usually full circle representing by position 3. The planet is typically bright since all its surface as observed from the earth is fully illuminated as it does not block any sun rays, rather, it reflects the sun rays back to the earth (Drake 204).

Do these observations prove anything about the Earth’s motions through space?
From the illustration, it is evident that earth rotation is clockwise opposite to Venus counterclockwise.

In this case, the rotation of the earth is similar to all the other planets apart from Venus. Moreover, often when Venus is at position 1 and 5, a considerable amount of sunlight is blocked from reaching the earth surface. Besides, the earth is not located at the center of the universe, and its motion is circular in nature as that of Venus. The movement of the earth in space tends to affect the way we see other planets such as Venus. Besides, from the earth, the relative motion of Venus appears to rotate around the Sun emanating from behind after the superior conjunction as it approaches the earth.
