LOOKING FOR WORK
First Question. The narrator likes the ‘uncomplicated’ family life depicted on the screens. He dislikes the lack of a fancy lifestyle and the experiences that are associated with this lifestyle. The other family members, however, enjoy their own culture and have just enough resources for their needs.
Third Question. The mature Soto, would appreciate that he grew up in a good family, where they ate together, offered each other a company and social support, and they were provided with basic needs such as education CITATION Sot p “23, 24” l 1033 (Colombo 23, 24). Soto’s thinking as a nine-year-old measured the quality of family life in terms of the view of other people and in material terms CITATION Sot p 25 l 1033 (Colombo 25).
Fifth Question. The mother helped the narrator balance between the ‘ideal’ life portrayed on the television and the beauty of his culture. The sister helped him see that he did not need to adopt a foreign lifestyle with the hope of being liked. The brother provided company and social support, and so did neighbors and friends.
WHAT WE REALLY MISS ABOUT THE 1950S’
First Question. We miss the financial stability, responsive remuneration, and better social and family relationships CITATION Coo13 p “28, 29” l 1033 (Coontz 28, 29). We don’t miss the downgrading of women, discrimination against the gays, and the fact that the 1950s were not based on Laissez-faire government CITATION Coo13 p 29 l 1033 (Coontz 29).

Third Question
The 1920s; male breadwinner.
1929; the stock market crash.
1930s; the great depression.
1946; divorce was on the increase.
The 1950s; people were ready to create new lives.
The 1960s; social protests increased.
1970; child poverty CITATION Coo13 p 41-43 l 1033 (Coontz 41-43).
My great-grandparents had the notion that the man should be the breadwinner of the family and the wife a stay at home mum as expressed by Coontz before 1950s. Later, the wife was able to get education and join in the labor force. It is currently easier than it was during my great-grandparents’ time.
Fourth Question. A sociologist might consider financial crises in understanding our current beliefs about family. The rise of the American economy has prompted more married women to find the jobs to secure their families. Women have become more educated and independent in the recent ten years. CITATION Coo13 p 30 l 1033 (Coontz 30). In view of this, divorce rates have been on the rise in the recent ten years.
