Some Risk Factors for Illness
In the health, sector some people have a higher probability of contracting illness than others. The higher risks are due to health differences between different people. Being in specific conditions pre-exposes an individual to sicknesses. Other situations are privileged hence the risk is low.
In America, the black people are at a higher risk of illness compared to the white. The blacks face discrimination hence lacks enough medical facilities and the few in their neighborhoods are poorly equipped. Some ethnic groups are highly marginalized therefore are at risk of illnesses. For instance, the aboriginals in the United States live in the reserves where there are no hospitals. They thus remain exposed to all sorts of disease. Poor people suffer poor sanitation and do not have the money to access the expensive and high-quality medical care putting them at risk of infections. Women are pre-exposed to illnesses more than men. The reason is that they fear to visit a medical center and be examined by a man who may sexually abuse her. Women are reluctant to go to a male gynecologist hence stay with her condition. Children cannot go to the health facility if not accompanied by an adult. If the adult is not concerned, the child ends up being at risk. People with mental illnesses and the disabled rely on the caregiver for medical attention. People with such conditions are at risk. The reason is that they cannot communicate to the other people in case they are suffering hence putting them at risk.

The lowly educated do not know the value of good health. The person ends up engaging in behaviors that are risky to their health. Some of the practices include excessive smoking, eating poorly and poor sanitation. People exhibiting a different sexual orientation are at high risk of illness. The people are at risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections if they don’t use proper protection during sex. Individuals without a healthcare plan may not be able to access healthcare regularly. These people thus face the risk of getting sick due to lack of checkup. In some places, healthcare is inaccessible due to geography. The facilities are few especially in the countryside hence people get regularly ill.
In conclusion, health is a primary basic need. Every person needs to be healthy to be productive in the economy. The factors that increase the risk to disease must be addressed and solved.
