Council on Social Work Education Policy and BSW Program Field Placement Policies & Procedures are some of the policies that the federal government has established and that affect the operations of field placement agencies. CSWE’s (Council on Social Work Education) Policy Practice aims at improving student knowledge and application of their skills. It helps in counseling social workers whenever necessary.
The BSW Program Field Placement Policies & Procedures organizes and negotiates field placement for students. It ensures that students complete 400 hours of field placement and that student have stayed until the end of their course dates. The policy ensures that students are at a particular field placement between September and mid-April the following year. The policy bars students from contacting agencies directly, and if a student wishes to be placed in an agency that is not listed by BSW, the student should discuss with the BSW Field Placement Coordinator. The BSW Field Placement Coordinator is the person responsible for placing students.
Because of these policies, social workers can acquire leadership and development opportunities (Tapp, 2010). They get an opportunity to expand their ability to understand and analyze issues like race, ethnicity, and poverty through field education as well as community engagement projects. The BSW policy ensures that there is a clear program for social workers to allow the, focus on the right thing at the right time.
