Social work entails working towards achieving social justice to community, family, and individuals via various ethics, skills, and knowledge. It intends to promote social transformation, development and as well as cohesion. Social workers are skilled in their respective disciplines with different abilities and values that are paramount in their line of profession. Their roles are inclusive of counseling, facilitating, social activists, peer educator and community developer. Social workers make a difference in the community because they provide social and emotional support and the job offers a variety of benefits and provide security.
Social support plays a vital role in mental health and patients of substance abuse to help them with rehabilitation (Hall et al., 145). The support goes great miles instilled in successful overcoming life challenges patients faces. Patients who feel they are valued by others give them a sense of acceptance. It is a vital psychological aspect in helping them overlook negative aspects of their lives. It gives room for positive thinking in the environment they and most important the support helps avoid negative thoughts that lead to worse cases of anxiety and depression.
Victims of domestic violence have various challenges with one being low self-esteem arising from partners not appreciating their value in the relationships (Torrey). The victims have trust issues which they have to deal with arising from broken promises.

They require support through this phase of life to help them come to terms with broken promises of their partners. They need to be reassured and need company as they tend to withdraw from normal socialization with tendencies of loving time alone.
In other cases, some patients may have undergone some ordeals that have inflicted trauma in their lives. Victims of rape and survivors of accidents suffer from the same and having support is key to help them overcome the trauma. The victims of rape need to be assured that all shall be okay despite how their defilers took advantage and traumatized. Rape victims hardly want to associate in intimacy as it brings back the ordeal that happened and it blocks intimate relationships. Such victims need someone they can talk to, understand them and do not judge the circumstances the victim may have been exposed. The support system helps them to walk through the issue by offering emotional support.
Victims of depression are in an emotional state that requires help since it is not good for them. The victims are likely to experience mood swings and as well as loss of interest in doing activities. Depression is saddening considering it affects the patients’ emotions and leads to impairment in their daily life operations. The victims can attest to depression affecting how they think, feel and affect how they handle decision making. They may have trouble with their sleeping schedules, eating habits and their working environment. Victims of depression need a support group that will help them overcome their problems. They may be suffering from unresolved issues in their past that they need closure (“Social Workers: Occupational Outlook Handbook: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics”). An interactive support group that gives them a chance to speak about their problems is healthy. The feeling that one cares about what you are going through is indeed a great relief for the patients.
Social workers profession is indeed a career path that instills positive impact in the community by helping victims that need emotional and social support. They get to implement change and transform the lives of the victims who were battling with their issues. The victims get the relief of someone offering such guidance and support to help overcome their troubles. It helps change drastically in their lives, and victims attest to even approach with positive energy. Earlier they may not have had that positive mindset thinking considering the negative thoughts they harbored (“Social Workers: Occupational Outlook Handbook: U.S. Bureau Of Labor Statistics”). However, through the help and support of the social workers, they are in a position to transform their lives into something meaningful. The support gives them a turnaround in their approach to life with a purpose to live focusing on positive aspects.
Conversely, some of the social workers may take or take the advantage of breaking the relationship in the pretense of helping to contain the situation at hand. Moreover, other social may pretend to be dealing with the issue of drug and substance abuse, while they collaborate with the drug dealers for their benefits. Hence, some may be pretending to help but the results are conflicting to what is expected of them in resolving the situation. Nonetheless, given that the social workers are disciplined and follow the required ethic in their profession, none of the mentioned cases can occur and many of them have proved to strictly adhere to their professional conducts in helping the people in need of their assistance. Therefore, the work of the social workers should be respected and given priority in the society since it is beneficial in helping people solve various problems that they face through interventions.
The social workers enjoy a friendly work environment that has flexible working hours. They interact with their patients at scheduled times that are both favorable to the two parties. The flexible schedule allows the workers to engage the patients at the time that is convenient for them (“Social Workers: Occupational Outlook Handbook: U.S. Bureau Of Labor Statistics”). The job look is promising to the social worker’s profession as there is potential in the market. More so the social work field is growing, and a niche is present that can be tapped. Patients are in need of professional support to help them overcome social and emotional support as they face various challenges of life. Growth in the needs that not have been achieved is present where the market still needs professions to meet the needs of the patients.
The future is bright for the social workers considering the market still want professional support staff to see through the patients through the various aspects of life that prove to be a challenge. The market holds a great potential with patients who need the support of such professional services. Moreover, job security is assured in the profession of social work field since people will always exist and man is to err and the mistakes have to be corrected in one way or another in the pursuit of improved living.
