Sports motivation and doping in adolescent athletes

Drug abuse to improve performance (De) represents an important problem in the world of sport. The use of PED violates the spirit of clean play (Fair Play), but not only in this regard represents a problem also represents a health problem. The World Anti -Doping Agency has reported that approximately 1% of the samples analyzed from Olympic sports athletes and approximately 3% of the samples analyzed of non -Olympic sports athletes showed positive results for doping. However, these relatively low numbers contrast with the results of questionnaire surveys that suggest a much greater prevalence of doping.

Among the most susceptible to using doping are teenage athletes can be considered particularly vulnerable to the abuse of dep. From the point of view of health, adolescent users have a high risk of suffering the side effects of the DEPs, such as anabolic steroids. From a psychological perspective, adolescents are especially susceptible to social pressures and expectations regarding sports competition and physical appearance and tend to participate in risk behaviors with possible harmful long -term effects.

While the use of drugs to increase performance seems to prevail in teenage sports, no attention has been paid to why teenage athletes are using these drugs. In the present study, doping among adolescents from a motivational perspective and explore the variables of motivation is addressed and analyzed.

3 years). The respondents had to complete some questionnaires that evaluated the orientations of their objectives of sports, in the first section of the questionnaire, asked the respondents about the demographic variables and about their participation in sports. In the next section, respondents about their experiences with doping were asked.

The second study a representative school survey at the national level, was distributed in France from April to May 2015, generating a final sample size of 6642 students

Main results

In the first study we observe strong correlations between the intention of doping and the attitudes towards doping and between the intention of doping and the acceptance of deception. In addition, intrinsic motivation was positively associated with continuing to win in proportion and negatively with the acceptance of traps and attitudes towards doping . However, only the acceptance of deception and attitudes towards doping was related to the intention of doping, which subsequently predicted doping behavior .In the second study in the findings of the French survey Espad in general, the 2.3% of the students used prohibited agents, and 6.1% used lawful and prohibited substances to improve sports performance.

Conclusions

On the basis of these results, it can be argued that the approach to intrinsic enjoy, comparison with others and external motivations seem to be positive factors.
