Substance consumption in adolescents in the last decades

Introduction.

Almost half of all high school students in Maryland have tried marijuana, while one in four last year students consume it frequently. Compared to the State, the use of marijuana by the high school students of Talbot County is slightly lower, about 30%. Meanwhile, the current use is approximately the same, according to the latest youth risk behavior survey.

While the recreational use of marijuana remains illegal in Maryland, the State has decriminalized the small possession. Medical use is legal, although the rules for dispensaries are relatively strict. Even so, dispensaries are appearing throughout the state, including Mid-Shore, which can raise parents to discuss the dangers of the drug with their children.

Marijuana defenders often promote drugs as beneficial for a variety of reasons, but the investigation remains mixed. However, one thing that remains clear is that the recreational use of marijuana is never well for adolescents. Often called the ‘input drug’, many teenagers who develop a substance use disorder began with the recreational use of marijuana.

Marijuana remains the most illicit drug consumed in Maryland, according to the National Drug Intelligence Center, and the consumption of adolescents is the highest in decades. Health experts cite legalization efforts as a reason for these increases, along with common misceptions that marijuana is harmless.

Conclusions.

The purpose of the program is to promote the ‘new conversation’, which includes prescription medications, alcohol, marijuana and electronic cigarettes. TGP focuses on educating students about the dangers of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs, and works to prevent children from starting using these substances first.
