THE POWER OF THE ECONOMIST

To understand what this discipline has achieved in relation to power, it is necessary to recognize the history of economic thought, which gives us knowledge about the ideologies of knowledge as a science.

The phenomenon of economists as possessors of knowledge-power tells us about the modernity that the market has which begins to structure with the resurgence of the ideas of freedom.

In the 1950s it was where economic planning was introduced.

The Colombian economy was an element of importance for the development in the economy after World War II. Likewise, there is the proliferation of foreign missions that between 1930 and 1980 did detailed studies and diagnoses of the Colombian economy, providing theoretical frameworks and very specific elements of interpretation.

We must emphasize that the economy has become an educational branch with great increasing complexity to human relations, which has led us to become instruments of political legitimation. 

The approach that the document has had explains the socioeconomic differences, although it is inevitable to publicize the differences are implicit with the circle of economists to power. A series of studies have been carried out in which one of them discusses the different positions that each student contains with their different criteria.

Assuming that the circle of economists of power is determined by the position in production relations, and taking as a central axis the implicit practices and requirements that define them as a group, I will begin by examining how the economists themselves explain the appearance and consolidationof this circle of power in Colombia.

Throughout the twentieth century we have had the presence of economists who are indispensable, although the promotion of economists begins to be remarkable since the twentieth century, when their circle of being able to be technical professionals that we begin as "young economists"When Alfonso López ruled, he strengthened debts in the 1980s.that without a doubt it was a great opportunity that Colombian economists had and in general Latin Americans.

The strengthening of economists elite can be seen from two perspectives. On the one hand as the power of a circle within Colombian society through the institutions in which they form academically.

And on the other hand we have the global processes that leads us to an international elite in other words, an economist seeks to promote a particular economic discourse.

These two processes cannot be considered opposite poles since together feedback.

Regarding the contraction of the Colombian national elite, it can be said that it can be easily exemplified with the contrast between the National University and the University of the Andes which are recognized for their high academic levels in what is the teaching of theeconomy.

In addition, English is a requirement that in turn does not give opportunities to belong to certain social classes. Not only to conduct studies abroad, since this language is currently very important to learn.

Well also this document raised helps us access the University of Foreign, which feeds us thanks to other factors, such as the circle of influence that are formed with the Uniandinos who return to their masters and doctorates to occupy the same positions at the University.

Many former students do not work at the institution since they are trained to exercise academic area in the public branch, in research centers either in private companies.

However, despite denying the influence that may have graduated from that university, the lack of unity between its members and to affirm that it is a process that does not reproduce consciously, works in part because of the need to hire andstay close to those who have their same education, of those who have had a similar tour and that they will probably have the same way of understanding and focusing on the issues they face.

The case of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Los Andes, is in most high positions of economic power. It is necessary to see how in recent decades power has concentrated more frequently in the economic sciences of that university.

It is necessary to clarify that the fundamental point of this analysis are the practices that a person has when belonging to the circles of the power of the economy.

So although what differentiates economists from traditional elites is that they support relatively “less in family capital and more in their own specialized knowledge, as well as in the cosmopolitan network built concurrently with the acquisition of their knowledgeand subsequent development of their careers ”, it is also true that most power economists have very good connections and have more or less close to the elite. For Colombian economists they allude to how to use foreign capital to erect their local power.

The most likely are that these studies are subject or have the accumulation of capital and help them take the right path towards power.

Something very similar happens with the passage through the Academy, either as professors, deans or researchers. These two practices have great weight in the prestige and credibility that these economists reach since, although the rotation in general is a mechanism to accumulate social, economic and cultural capital, the passage through universities and research centers allows them to create andStrengthen their image of experts, technicians who, not only have exclusivity in the management and knowledge of certain matters of great importance for the Nation, but also have an academic and intellectual character that moves them away from political corruption and particular interests.

With these arguments they are presented as public officials that, unlike those who move according to the "situation and partisan policy", participate in this arena for a purely intellectual interest. This neutrality discourse around which economists have forged their image, and who seeks to move away from the sectors traditionally known as politicians, is the discourse on which the dominant ideological currents of the last century are based, the assumption on which it was basedThe classical economy and what, among other things, would later inherit the neoclassical economy.
