Types of Drug Abuse and Crimes Committed

Introduction
The drug is a substance taken by an individual in form of a chemical or medication that will alter the normal function of the brain or body. There are two main categories of drugs existing in the society. The first category is the legal drugs which are obtained from health professionals or sold over the counter. The second classification is the illegal drugs whose usage have been prohibited by the law due to the dangers associated with them such as committing of crimes, violence and unpredicted and immature deaths (“Different types of drugs,” 2018).
Types of drugs abused and crimes associated with them
According to Statistics obtained from U.S. Bureau of Justice the atrocities committed in the states are linked to drug abuse. The cases that are frequently reported to have been committed by victims under the influence of drugs are rape or sexual assault which is about 30%, the crime of violence (2.4%), robbery (23.3%), assault (24.1%) and simple assault (23.5%). (Buddy,2018).
The arrestees in the U.S. are always tested for ten drugs by the Arrestee Drug Abuse Monitoring unit to collect data on the usage of cannabis, amphetamine, PCP, barbiturates, benzodiazepine, cocaine, buprenorphine, methadone, and oxycodone. These drugs are mainly shipped to the states by the sea (“Types of drugs abused in Washington State”, 2018).
The heroine is a hard drug that is highly addictive. When abused it causes hallucination, seizures as well as psychosis.

Frequent use of this drug interferes with the brain receptors, and besides that, leads to death when overdosed (“Top 10 Different Types of Drugs…” 2018). Due to the high cost of buying the drug most from the drug peddlers involve themselves in robbing for money and other valuable items.
Marijuana is another drug commonly abused in a social place. It is very addictive and challenging to stop its usage once one becomes an addict (“Top 10 Different Types of Drugs…” 2018). The continued usage leads to the memory loss, physical coordination challenges, and loss of breath (“Different types of drugs”, 2018). The type of crime committed by the addict is murder due to clouded reasoning and anxiety caused by the drug. Additionally, long-term users commit robbery to obtain money for buying the drug.
Alcohol is a drug that is commonly abused by many users in the society. The excessive consumption of alcohol plays a significant role in criminal activities. It can cause impaired judgment on a person, lowers inhibition and increases the chances of being violent and aggressive. Some individuals are serving their time in prison just because of a crime they committed due to abuse of alcohol (“Alcohol-related crime,” 2018).
In the USA the violent crimes recorded against the American Indians indicates that 48% were committed under the influence of alcohol. Apart from that, every year 1.5 million are arrested for driving while drunk and causing accident due to impaired driving. According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 2014 report arrests were done on 6,391 drivers with blood alcohol concentrations higher than 0.8 (Buddy,2018).
Additionally, 15% of robbery and 37% of attempted or rape cases are committed under the influence of alcohol (Gilmore et al., 2018). Besides that, it results in intimate partner violence whereby the romantic partner becomes violent and harms the other (“Alcohol-related crime,” 2018).
According to “Alcohol-related crime” (2018), child abuse and homicide cases which are about 40 percent linked to the abuse of alcohol. Four out of ten child abusers have testified to have conducted the act without their consciousness.
Amphetamines are a commonly abused hard drug that accelerate the mental and body function of an addict. It causes delusion and abnormal behavior when taken in. Besides that, they cause irreversible physical appearance and brain and nerve damages. Most abusers are violent and frequently attack their loved ones (“Types of drugs abused in Washington”, 2018).
Conclusion
Most abused hard drugs have health complication on the addicts. Besides that, the majority of drugs are associated with criminal activities due to their ability to interfere with a brain. Additionally, most of the drug addicts are from a poor background, or unemployed, therefore they develop a habit of robbing and stealing to obtain money for drugs.
