Abstract
Drug abuse has become quite a huge problem in today’s society. However, since there is the chance to turn one’s life around, those that take the opportunity need all the care they can get so that they get integrated back into the society effectively. Being part of a society, everyone has a responsibility to adhere to a certain code of conduct, and in many occasions, drug abuse makes one deviate from this hence the need for rehabilitation and acceptance back in the community. Different rehabilitation centers are run differently, notwithstanding, social workers spend a lot of time with drug abusers, and so they get to understand their different behaviors as they monitor them which makes it crucial that they are included in the formulation of goals for any such institution. It serves for the benefit of the organization as well as the good of everyone who enrolls in the center.

Handling Drug Abusers
Humans are social beings and living in a society entitles one to conform to the societal norms, believes and upholds a certain way of life (What is Social Control, n.d). There are consequences to deviance, and in many cases, the deviants are given quite a different treatment than others. Drug use has never been accepted as a right way of life many societies perceive it as taboo. However, there is always a second chance to those who like to reform and uphold an acceptable code of conduct in a society.

In helping drug abusers reform their ways, therefore, it is essential that a program to enable them to get integrated back into the society is established. This way they not only deviate from their drug abuse but also are better equipped to fit appropriately in the society and also carry out tasks that are geared towards empowering them to be great individuals.
Such an initiative could be incorporated alongside counseling sessions, which could be for the individuals alone or with their family members as well (Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, 2004). Then closely monitoring of their behavior would also come in handy, here the social workers have a great role to play in ensuring the success of the transition as they spend a lot of time (Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, 2004) with the drug abusers. On the other hand, getting them to be involved in certain tasks that keep them engaged and even broaden their skill set will be quite essential in ensuring that they are well-reformed individuals, capable of self-sustenance when they get out of rehabilitation. This hence calls for the need to incorporate an objective in social control and empowerment among the goals of any rehabilitative institution, as it shapes the drug abusers to be better members of the society and dependent/dependable people on recovering.
