Population and Sampling
Treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD) mainly involves two types of therapies namely Cognitive Therapy (CBT) and Person- Centered Therapy (PCT). The begging the question has been which of the two therapies is more effective as compared to the other. In this research, about 100 veteran participants will be selected for the study. They will be tested to determine whether or not they suffer from either substance abuse, PTSD or both. The method of sampling to be used will be purposive sampling (Jackson, 2015). This method will ensure that only a targeted group of participants are to be selected.
Instrumentation
Two health issues are to be evaluated, and for this reason, only two instruments will be used to determine whether the participants who will be undergoing PCT or CBT have PTSD or substance abuse symptoms. One of the instruments to be used is DSM-5 which will aid in measuring the symptoms of PTSD as well as determining the severity of the related adverse effects. The other instrument to be used is the Addiction Severity Instrument (ASI). This will aid in assessing the severity of drug or alcohol abuse (Feelemyer et al. 2014). It will also give interval data outcomes about the severity of substance abuse.
Procedure
An experimental research design is to be applied. Only patients who are suffering from either substance abuse or PTSD and are undergoing PCT or CBT will be included as participants (Jackson, 2015).

The severity of substance abuse and PTSD after the specific therapy is to be assessed. The outcome of those who underwent CBT will be compared to those who underwent PCT.
Analysis
Data will be collected before and after the participants have undergone the specific therapeutic processes for the purposes of comparison. The therapeutic process that greatly reduces the severity is to be determined.
