There are much hype surrounding the Olympics globally; the biggest trend is its effect on the economy. Olympics are mainly bailed with huge money. Countries which host Olympics suffer much because they spend a lot repairing the stadiums which will never be used after the event. In addition, the sheer cost towards these events is large. For instance, the last four Olympics held was projected to cost, Sydney in 2000 costed US4.7billion, Athens, £9 billion while Rio was US$15 billion. Therefore, countries which host such events incurs huge loses regarding the economy
Ethos
Hosting Olympics involves infrastructure challenges, in this case, mega-events like Olympics in most cases involves urban renewal and a lot of regeneration (Carvalhedo, et al., 2017). This is done because to host such events you need to prepare for good roads, accommodation and good transport networks since there is the increase in the number of tourists and athletes involved. Therefore, the central challenge for hosting such events is renewing the entire infrastructure after the athletes have left. For example, in Rio Brazil, infrastructure underwent up to US$500M only in renovations.
Rebuttal
Hosting Olympics games brings to the nation tourists. Tourists play a role in boosting the economy of the nation (Carvalhedo, et al., 2017).. Thus, in this case, it helps them to interact with the natives thus learning new cultures and traditions.

During the 2008 Olympic Games hosted in Beijing, many people were removed forcefully from their homes at the expense of the visitors (Carvalhedo, et al., 2017). Therefore, the games brought a lot of frustrations to the locals. Such games need to bring international prestige to the locals, but in case it brought a lot of problems to them.
