American West
Wildlife and fish make an integral part of our environment today. Wildlife generally refers to all untamed animal species, plants, and other organisms that exist without the direct control of human beings. On the other hand, the fish cover majority of marine life with a variety of species whereas there are also some fish species which have been domesticated by man.
Common pool resources generally refer to naturally existing or man-made features having attributes that benefit human beings but at the same time have to be used carefully since their importance reduces with increase in beneficiaries. Example of such includes fish and wildlife. In our world today, wildlife and fish exist to benefit everyone, and their importance cannot be excluded from a single individual. As a result of this, people have come to ignore their value and therefore with time they have become subject to degradation.
A good example is in the built-up environment where human beings have found it hard to coexist with wildlife such as deer and foxes where people view them as pests and a source of diseases, therefore, trying to get rid of them. People focus much on the threat of diseases that might be caused by such animals, therefore, fearing that they may harm their pets. The benefits that spring out from wildlife is inferiorly communicated. They end up overlooking the positive contribution that such animals bring to our environment (Daniels, np).

Some of the positive contributions are very expensive to ignore. One of them is that wildlife and fish support the ecosystem. They bring balance to the environment as some of them feed on rodents that would have acted as pests whereas herbivores feed on some plants that are thickets. A good example is songbirds which help to control the insect population, and predatory birds help in rodent control (Daniels, np). Fish provide a large number of nutrients to the ecosystem hence imparting a large value to the food web related to human beings. They also feed on small animals and microorganisms in water hence regulating them.
It is good to note that wildlife also enhances the health of human beings and their general wellbeing. This importance is always greatly undervalued. There has been a clear assertion that the availability and scenery of urban wildlife are important for the human mind and psychology. Wildlife grant people the chance to have a one on one connection with nature at a local level (Daniels, np).
As the population of human beings continues to rise, there is a consequent conflict between human beings and wildlife, therefore, contributing to the degradation of wildlife. Fish is also affected as people harvest more fish and also pollute water, therefore, affecting marine life. Conflicts take place when the actions of wildlife such as aggression, disturbance or even their propagation of parasites or diseases affect humans negatively (Daniels, np). Such problems may be minor but lead to distress among individuals hence causing them to react by getting rid of wildlife. Since it is difficult for them to quantify the benefits of wildlife and fish they end up ignoring the harm they are doing on them.
In view of all this, it is a high time for the value of wildlife to be increased. Human beings should start valuing fish and wildlife more and esteeming their importance in the environment. This has to start by humans accepting to live with animals successfully in the same environment without conflicts. A total change in the culture of people should occur whereby people should begin to appreciate the important wildlife and fish in the ecosystem. Their benefits should be communicated properly to people in society. Also, ways of maximizing their importance such as raising the reachability of naturally available green areas and enhancing interactions with wild animals (Daniels, np).
Biologists dealing with wildlife need to work with other researchers involved in economics, sociology, planning, and psychology to further the understanding of people on the importance of fish, wildlife and biodiversity (Daniels, np).
Though there are some areas where people are complaining that wildlife is overvalued and that too much consideration is given to them as compared to humans, I differ with that opinion.
In conclusion, it is a high time that human beings have to learn to coexist with wildlife without degrading them. By doing this, the ecosystem will be well maintained and run efficiently.
