Description of Andragogy
Andragogy is also referred to as an adult theory that was suggested by Malcolm Shepherd Knowles. Knowles realized that there were huge variations between pedagogy which is teaching children and andragogy which is how adults learn. According to the theory, is that adults have a secure self-concept compared to children and therefore can direct their learning. They also have experiences which they add gain as they learn. Adults are internally motivated, and they are eager and ready to learn. Their reason to continue to learn is to gain practical experience (Peltz, Clemons& IGI Global, 2018).
Response
How might you employ the principles of andragogy in the following areas?
1. Preparing the learner:
I would start by asking them to concentrate on what is taught in class and forget about their work, family or other responsibilities just for the time they are attending the session for them to succeed. The next step is to introduce to them the topics that will be covered and what they need to do to perform as expected.
2. Establishing a climate conducive to learning:
I would inform them to keep their mobile phones aside or other gadgets to ensure that they concentrate on training. I would assure them that they will not be judged based on their responses. They would be encouraged to give their views on anything that they learn.
3. Diagnosing the needs for learning:
It is vital to inquire from them what they desire to learn from the training.

Wait! Andragogy paper is just an example!

Since adults have huge past experiences, it is vital to know what they think they desire to expand on to be better in their jobs.
4. Formulating program objectives/content:
The objectives would be formulated based on what the learners desire to learn to fulfil their needs.
5. Designing a pattern of learning experiences:
Designing a pattern of learning experiences will seek to solve various problems that learners encounter. They will include lack of knowledge, motivation, skill, resource, confidence and many others. The learners will state what they have learned at different stages of the course
6. Conducting those learning experiences with suitable techniques and materials:
The adult learners will help in selecting the methods and materials that will be critical in obtaining the learning experiences.
7. Evaluating the learning outcomes and re-diagnosing learning needs:
It will be essential to assess whether the objectives were set when the training began were accomplished. The learning experiences and the gaps in knowledge will help in re-diagnosing learning needs.
Analysis
The interview with a human resource trainer went on well. Her responses were in line with the principles of andragogy. She was willing to allow learners to participate in designing the training program and in setting objectives. The adult learners would also share their experiences, and it would be applied in establishing their learning needs. Learning brings change to an individual and makes them capable of handling their environment adequately (Knowles, Holton & Swanson, 2015).
