It studies human beings and includes humans’ culture, political life, ethnicity, race, language, religion and many other aspects that are connected to them. The study assists in the understanding of human past and present nature. The American people belong to the United States of America. The nation is home to different people who come from different countries around the world. The American people never liked their national being with ethnicity but, with allegiance and citizenship. American citizens make up the majority of the population, however, dual citizens, expatriates and non-citizens also claim an identity of the region.
Race and Ethnicity
The US is known to have a population that is diverse. There are currently six racial and ethnic groups namely the Alaska Native, white American, Asian American, Pacific Islanders, African America and Native Hawaiian. The Census Bureau from the region identifies the Americans as ‘Latino or Hispanic’ and ‘Not Latino or Hispanic’, and this includes Latino and Hispanic Americans as an ethnic group that is diverse with the biggest minority in the region.
Languages
There are many languages that are used in the US, but English is the common language used by the majority of the citizens. There are other languages that are native to North America and other US states.

The majority of the citizens use those languages that were introduced by the colonists and immigrants who hailed from Asia, Europe and many other parts of the world. Sign languages and the Creoles have been in use for centuries by the people from the region. Currently, there are nearly 337 languages that are known to be in use in the US while 176 of those are indigenous. It is vital to note that 52 languages that were previously spoken by the people are extinct. The country has no official language at the federal level giving the American English an upper hand during communication. However, there have been several attempts to make English the national language, a move that has not materialized.
Politics
The US has a president who is the head of both the state and government. The judiciary, congress, and the president share their powers left for the national government while the federal government shares their independence with other state governments. The president also heads the executive who is known to be independent, while the legislative power is divided between the House of Representatives and the Senate. There are two major parties are the Republican Party and the Democratic Party, other smaller parties include the Constitution Party, The Libertarian Party, and the Green Party.
Religion
There are diverse religious practices and beliefs in the US. Most religions have thrived while others have perished. Most citizens have reported that religion plays a crucial part in their lives, a concept that is unique among most developed nations. Most of the Americans are Christians with few of them said to have no affiliations. The American Religious Identification Survey confirms that 76% of the US citizens are Christians while 51% attend different Protestant denominations among them those who are not affiliated to any denomination. Those that are affiliated to the Catholic movement are 25%. Other religions which include Hinduism, Judaism, Islam and Buddhism collectively harbor 4% of the population. The Gallup poll indicated that citizens from Mississippi were more religious among other states.
Culture
US culture is identified as Western but known to have influences from the Latin American culture, African culture, Native American culture and the Asian culture. The American culture began more than 10,000 years ago after the migration of the Paleo-Indians from Europe and Asia. The US has its own diverse and unique cultural and social characteristics like arts, dialect, cuisine, social habits, folklore and music. The region has a diverse culture due to the influx of immigrants from other regions around the globe.
Conclusion
The anthropology of the US assists scholars and people around the world to understand the diverse nature of their social and economic setting. The culture of the region includes their traditions and customs. The political nature emphasizes their government operations while their religion indicates their way of worship. The US has had a diversified nature of living due to the increased influx of immigrants from other nations.
