Introduction
The novel of a Thousand Splendid Suns. It is an intriguing novel that is based in the Afghanistan setting. Thesis statement
The writer uses several characters to drive the point he intended by bringing the characters into play. The attitudes are shaped into who they are by some aspects in their surroundings, such elements include, cultural, physical, or geographical aspects (Hosseini, 2009). They tend to vividly bring out the character traits of the respective characters and hence give a deeper meaning of what was intended by the writer.
Clear Examples to support my points
The novel is about the life Laila and Mariam; they were co-wives (Hosseini, 2009). They came from different backgrounds and had to do whatever they could to adapt to the new conditions. At their present, they were faced with an era in their time where the rights of women were undermined. They encountered several challenges, but in the process, their cultural environment changed them to the point that they became successful (Hosseini, 2009). The cultural aspects included the fact that their rights were undermined and had no freedom as the men had.

Despite this, they fought their way out and became stronger instead.
Explanations for the examples
Laila is a smart character who was pretty, and confident in her dealings. She just lacked an opportunity to express her strengths (Hosseini, 2009). But to her disadvantage, she lived in a time where such was impossible. It does not, however, stop her but she fights for her place and ends up living a happy woman and was against the authorities for how they treated women.
The second character to justify the points is Mariam, she is married to the same husband as Leila and even though her characters do not show outwards like those of Leila, and she is a hero of her own. Throughout the novel, she manages to beat all her challenges to the point where she outdoes Leila. She begins from the very low as a harami and rises gradually. The humble beginning where she started seemed to lack any future prosperity, but this does not deprive her the chance to improve. (Hosseini, 2009).
The three women including Aziza showed unity in themselves. They were one and time, and again Mariam would tell people that Leila was her daughter. This is what strengthens them and later. The challenges that face these women is what makes them unify.
Conclusion
The above is an in-depth analysis of how the various characters are affected by their surroundings. That is the physical, cultural, and geographical surroundings and how they will shape their attitude towards the attainment of the final role in the book. The characters have the problems of segregations by gender as well as poor background amongst other factors that give them the challenges in life. They have to come together to fight the above difficulties in one way or another and finally become successful in life. Through this, they bring about the theme of freedom as a result of unity they had.
