Human beings are the “highest of animals”. Mark Twain refutes that man is the highest of animals due to the flaws that are common to man. The actions such as the careless killing of animals as evidenced in the exercise that he carried by looking at the earl and the anaconda’s behavior on killing other animals. The earl engages in sports killing of buffaloes for fun while the anaconda only kills a calf for the sake of getting filled. The example is subjective, and it would be wrong to dismiss the actions of few men to classify all human beings as wanton beings. For instance, governments have established efforts to conserve animals, and even to save the entire planet.
The deliberate action plans to redeem the events of the past proves that man despite making mistakes is conscious of what should be done. Hence, it would be wrong to dismiss human beings as unconscious beings, unlike the cat. If human beings had no conscious, they would descend to the total destruction of each other as there would be the use of brute force for survival. Human beings being the highest animals compete like all other animals for resources, and this is often seen through hard work and enterprise. Unlike the other animals, the wealthiest come up with mechanisms of advancing their societies through supporting charity courses and creating employment opportunities.
Regardless of human beings being flawed, they are above all other animals as they can think, associate and have religion.

It is easy to dismiss the man as a low animal as some of the actions defy conventional wisdom; however, it is worth noting that humanity has distinguished itself by being able to be the guardians of all other animals. In doing this man has exercised care, and goodwill by starting initiatives that lead to the preservation of biodiversity.
In conclusion, the eternal strife of humanity to try to become better shows that they are the highest of animals. The quest to become better is often flawed, but it also proves the advancement of human beings in the exercise of their knowledge. Further, it is notable that despite the great advancement man finds the significance of values and exercises consciousness and restraint.
