However, it is important to note that other terrorist groups could also infiltrate the channels to impose attacks using nuclear weapons. Groups like the Al Qaeda, for instance, are known to send their recruits to live with others in the society as spies before implementing attacks on the ground (Haveman & Shatz, 2006). Loopholes in the waterways are equally possible routes maneuvered by groups like the Al Qaeda and its affiliates, foreign nationalists, and Islamist unaffiliated organizations among others.
Mitigation measures to curb terrorism involving nuclear missiles are varied. These countermeasures mainly have to get implemented by improving the security docket at the San Diego port. Firstly, the security system has to adopt submersibles that are video-equipped to act as the human eyes under the water. Secondly, the department of homeland security liaises with the port security to get identification credentials for all transportation workers. This measure assists in preventing spies from fully implementing their intentions. Moreover, radiation scanners are the best equipment for protecting ports from nuclear threats (Amabile & King, 2014). Finally, steps including harbor patrols, surveillance cameras, control and command center as well as great communication are key to preventing attacks from happening in the San Diego port.
Conclusively, in the scenario where an attack happens the personnel would have to apply several rapid response rescue plans. The steps involved include quick control of the scene to establish safe grounds for the public as well as responders. Due to the nature of nuclear emissions measures are necessary to prohibit contamination (Parfomak & Frittelli, 2007). Moreover, initiatives that include support from medical personnel, technical assistance, and external support from other jurisdictions are key to salvaging a possible terror attack in the San Diego area.
