Howard University
1866 – Howard University began as a school of Theology, it taught theological studies, mainly to the African American society.
1867 – The university was given a charter and became an independent university officially. It was per the United States Congress Act.
1872 – The first students graduated from the university after it was chattered this year.
1926 – Mordecai Wyatt Johnson became the first African American president to be in charge of the university. ( Logan, 1969)
Du Bois creates a new model
1895 – Du Bois gets a Ph.D. from the University of Harvard. He was the first African American to obtain the honors at that time.
1896 – This is the year where Du Bois accepted to work at the University of Pennsylvania
1897 – He started lecturing profession at Atlanta University. At this time he researched the social lives of the African American society.
1906- Niagara movement was introduced by Du Bois, which was used to foster for equality of human rights.
The Red Summer
April 14th, 1919 – At a local church in Millen Georgia, this is here six people met death who were two white officers, and four were blacks
May 12th, 1919 – Benny Richards a black is chased by a mob trying to catch him to punish him instead of the police doing so for being the cause of the death of his wife.
May 3rd, 1919 – there as a heightened rise in the mass murder of the African American citizens, this made the black leaders organize a conference on the matter.

May 10th 1919- due to the mass migration towards the north there was increased riot over housing.
Brown v. Board of Education
1952 – This moment is when the case between brown and the Board of Education was filed in the courts of law.
1954 – This was the year that the Supreme Court overruled the case stating that it would violate the amendment of equal protection.
1955 – The court ruled the enactment of the main Brown act to implement the decisions made.
1963- There were demonstrations in the city of Birmingham as well as Alabama
Murder of Emmett Till
August 19th, 1955 – his mother gave Emmett Till a ring. A day before he left for Mississippi
August 20th, 1995 – Emmett went to take a train to Mississippi.
August 21st, 1995 – Emmett arrives at Mississippi here he stays with his uncle Mr. Moses Wright.
August 24th, 1995 – Here the young fellow was dared to date Carolyn by his fellow age mates Bryan, the wife of the shop owner.
August 28th, 1995 – He was kidnapped by Roy Bryant from Moses’ home where he was murdered and his body maimed. (Tyson, 2017)
Ruby goes to school
1954 – Ruby was born on the farm where her parents used to work; this was in Mississippi.
1958 – The family of Ruby moves to New Orleans they hoped to find a better life in the city.
1960- She was tested to check whether she was capable of attending an all-white school. She and only six others passed the test. She, therefore, started school in the same year.
March on Washington
May 25th, 1941- The movement of March on Washington started.
July 4th, 1941 – Roosevelt creates a national Fair Employment Practices Committee
June 22nd, 1963 – this was the day that John Franklin Kennedy spoke to the leaders, in one of the meetings in the white house.
August 28th, 1963 – this as the day of the official March, whereby more than 200,000 both black and white took part
