Cochrane in the process of independence of Peru in 1819

SOURCE IDENTIFICATION AND EVALUATION

This investigation tries to answer the question of: “To what extent did the Huachanos benefit the Lord Cochrane landing in the process of Independence of Peru in 1819?". The first source is the Cochrane memories that we will use to inform their actions and analyze the benefits it had for our independence. The second source are the notes of the history of Huacho, which contains many essays by different authors, which deals with the landing of Cochrane in the port of Huacho in 1819.

This source is the testimonies of Cochrane, narrated by it, since 1817 that began its arrival in Chile. This source is intended to inform us of its actions carried out since the 1819 to analyze the benefits they brought to achieve independence with their arrival.

The limitations are presented with the writing style in the book, since over time adaptations could have been created that could be altering the information given by the primary source.

Notes in the history of Huacho. Domingo Torero, Fernández de Córdoba (1997)

This source are essays about Lord Cochrane’s landing in the port of Huacho, narrated by five authors, which highlights the test of Domingo Torero Fernández de Córdoba. This secondary source is intended to show the most important events of the arrival of Cochrane to the North Chico. The author relies from primary sources to justify his perspective regarding the subject.

Wait! Cochrane In The Process Of Independence Of Peru In 1819 paper is just an example!

The limitation is that they could be trials that collect unfinished information, because being an essay could only show the author’s point of view and not complete information on the actions carried out by Lord Cochrane.

Research

Driven by a need for freedom the independence of Peru was inevitable and by the years 1819 until 1820 our territory was in the emancipation process. Thomas Alexander Cochrane was a British admiral who highlighted a lot for his participation in the independence of Latin America among them that of Chile in 1820. To achieve this independence Lord Cochrane made in total three expeditions to Peru in which he achieved many feats that benefited Peru.

The first expedition of Cochrane for the Independence of Chile, was in Peru specifically in front of the Bay of Paracas. He was accompanied by Don José de San Martín. After that landing he went to Callao and later to the coast of the northern Chico. Upon arriving at the port of Huacho, Cochrane was influenced by Remigio Silva as seen in the following lines: “Remigio Silva, a patriot of San Martín from a long time ago (…) informed Cochrane, about the possibility and convenience of looking for food and waterIn Huacho where he would find them in abundance in addition to having the disposition of their people (…) ”(Notes in the history of Huacho, 2015, P.3. 4).

With this visit what Cochrane achieved was to stock up with many supplies, food, etc., Thus favoring its next attack on the Navy of Spain, having contact and communication with the population, seizing the Pacific Waters and obtaining information to facilitate the next arrival of San Martín and know about the strengths and weaknesses in Callao as evidenceThe following phrase: “It was, however, convinced that the passive or defense system adopted by the Spaniards in Callao, would make space of great difficulty when approaching them without other means more effective than the trucks of the ships (Memories, 2003, P.12) ".

With these contributions, the Huachano people not only supply the crew of Lord Cochrane, but also their inspiration to reach Lima. Upon arriving at Callao, he made a bombing of the Chalaco port in 1819 where the outburst of several Spanish ships was obtained.

Lord Cochrane’s actions represents a great benefit for the Huachano people and also for the entire country. With Cochrane’s participation in Callao, he reduced Spanish pressure to subsequently ensure his victory in the destruction of the Spanish squad with his second foray into the Peruvian territory.

With his third foray to Lima in 1820 he also went through Huacho to obtain resources in this case with his participation in the Liberating Expedition of Peru managed to capture the Emerald frigate ending the Spanish domain in the Lima region. It could also be said that the intervention of the British Admiral in Huacho brought freedom of the same people through the "Toma de Huaura", as mentioned in the following appointment: "Without losing a moment, Cochrane ordered the landing and march against Huaura of 400 soldiers …Huaura was taken without much effort … "(Notes in the story of Huacho, 2015, P.36). Thus Huacho was released in command of the British Admiral

In conclusion, in the process of independence of Peru during the years 1819 and 1820 the actions of Cochrane were valuable and beneficial for both Huacho and Peru.

Reflection

Essays are a method for a historian to show his research, to inform his appreciation and position before a certain point. But some of these do not present accurate information, this is the case that was presented to us when investigating the sources, but we managed to get out of this hurry when reading, comparing and analyzing the data presented by what we conclude that theDo an investigation we must analyze our sources very well or if we will not end up removing the veracity from our research.

Another point to take into account is the type of edition that is given to a book, since it is an adaptation to the language now an alteration is generated in the way of interpreting the data. In our research this problem was shown when analyzing the Memoirs of Cochrane, since it was a 2003 edition and that the adaptations with the words were evidenced, although the information it presented were thus shown was correct so that in the veracity oftext we were satisfied.

As a last problem, it was our lack of trust regarding the chosen question, since not knowing how to raise one at every moment we changed the question, but when investigating and knowing how to ask a research question we managed to do so. We reflect on the objectivity of the question and its possibility of debate and that is how we managed to finish this research.
