‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ is a play that takes place in Alabama. The main character of the play is Jean Louise whose father is a lawyer. He has high ethical principles. There is a rumor about a man who never leaves his home named Boo Radley. This man had once jabbed his father in the leg using scissors. Children in the neighborhood are curious to know more about Boo, and they create an act they make on a daily basis to illustrate his life as they get to know about it. On the other hand, American History X deals with the social theme of racism. It also brings about equality and justice issues. The play is about two brothers who had different lives, a racist and fanatic ideology of life. A drug dealer who was black murdered their father. They grow up hating blacks. From both plays, there are some similarities found.
Racism is a major theme in both books. Blacks are not allowed to mingle with whites especially in public areas in ‘To Kill a Mocking Bird.’ Intermarriages in the play are unheard of as the whites looked down on the Blacks. In the novel, the society disregards all intermarriages as seen from Mr. Raymond’s case. He fakes to be an alcoholic by carrying a bottle of soda making people believe it is an alcoholic drink. He does this so that people do not question his choice of marriage. American History X, Derek kills two Black men, smiles and feels satisfied after the act.
People in both books look down blacks, and some people like Tom Robinson are jailed because of their race yet they are not responsible for the acts they are accused of.

Wait! Compare To Kill A Mockingbird to American History X paper is just an example!

Churches in both books reveal that there were churches for both races. The whites could worship the same way people do it today. However, blacks could not even read aloud the Bible. From the examples above, we see that both ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ and American History X have the theme of racism.
