Since psychology deals with problems affecting humans, psychologists decided to involve themselves with societal issues. Below are three ways in which psychologists diversified the scientific knowledge of social issues. Functionalism refers to the study of how unified components work together and create a unified experience in the mind. Psychologists believed that knowledge derived from studying human behavior could be used to control behavior.
The contribution of each to psychology
William Wundt
William Wundt is referred to as the father of psychology as he formed the world’s first experimental psychology lab. Through his work, Wundt changed psychology from being perceived as a combination of biology and philosophy transformed to a whole new field.
Edward Titchner
Edward Titchner is known as the founder of the structuralism. Tichner developed his own version of Wundat’s psychology. According to him, the main purpose of psychology is to study components of consciousness and analyze the complex day to day activities to understand the compounding nature.
William James
William James is known as the father of psychology for various reasons. He was the first individual to teach psychology in the United States (Lempe, Sven & Roger 59).

Watson is known in the field of psychology for founding the theory of behaviorism. Behaviorism refers to the scientific study of behavior.
Advantages and disadvantages that come from a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of human behavior.
Some of the advantages associated with a multi-disciplinary approach when studying human behavior include; different disciplines have different types of insights and expertise hence one field could be more familiar with a topic than another. Also using multiple disciplines helps widen the coverage as a topic is covered broadly by various disciplines. Some of the disadvantages include increased costs as many disciplines are used in a study making it expensive. Also, different disciplines might have different levels of understanding on a topic making a study complicated.
