Depression as a cause of suicide in Ecuador

Depression is a mental illness that affects a large number of people within Ecuador. It can be a controllable problem but can also become a very serious health problem, especially when it is long lasting. It can cause great suffering and alter the activities of daily life, in the worst case it can lead to suicide. As Durkheim says: suicide varies in reverse proportion to the degree of integration of social groups to which the individual belongs. Is suicide one of the depression outputs? There are many solutions for depression such as going to the psychologist or even the psychiatrist. Throughout the trial several aspects will be described and important statistics will be given. (Psicorumbo, 2015).

Within depression according to DR. There are different types that can lead to suicide or can be controlled with treatment. The distymic disorder is a type of depression of subclinical category, which allows the person who suffers from it apparently has a “normal” level of operation, although it should be emphasized that maintains a state of discouragement and is not satisfied with anything. The second type of depression is the depressive disorder that can be mild or severe. It is a clinical disorder that interferes with the ability of a person to carry out their daily activities such as sleeping, eating, working, studying, among others. (J. Varas, 2016).

In some people, depression can cause suicidal thoughts, which is the disease with a higher risk of death.

Suicide instincts are usually common in women under 35 years of age, specifically between 15 and 24 years of age, on the other hand, men present it at an older age. Additionally, to have a recovery, the environment surrounding people suffering from depression greatly influences rehabilitation. The affection and commitment that relatives and relatives have is fundamental, just like patience and motivation. The treatment against depression, so that it does not reach adults such as suicide is of two types: pharmacological and psychotherapist. (J. Varas, 2016).

Depression is the main cause of mental consultation in Ecuador. Inside this country, depression figures are extremely high, so it is positioned among the main countries of Latin America with the greatest depression. According to INEC 2.088 people in Ecuador were treated for depressive diseases in the health establishments of Ecuador in 2015 of which 65% were women. Within these figures several people went to psychologists and psychiatrist, so statistics gave the number of psychologists and psychiatrists increased 198% in 9 years after 487 in 2006 to 1451 in 2015. Finally, in 2015 1.073 people committed suicide. (INEC, 2015).

In conclusion, depression is one of the main causes of suicide in different countries and within Latin America, Ecuador is one of the countries with the greatest depression and suicide. There are different types that can be controlled, but there are many that are not detected on time and causes many problems. The symptoms in some cases are very clear, but in others they are confusing and let go. We must be aware of what is happening in the country and take into account the aforementioned figures, and realize that the level of depression is increasing that is why it is recommended to constantly go to a psychologist so that mental illnesses arereduce and do not cause long -term problems such as suicide.
