Question # 1
Being in different discourse communities has always been my interest in life. It is based on the fact that, participating in several discourse communities provides an opportunity to share my mind with relevant people with the same ambitions. Being an active member of a discourse community in my class has interfered with my active participation in other discourse communities since my time is limited. However, to ensure that I am active in all the discourse communities, I have learned how to balance my time by developing a good timetable which shows the specific times that I should spend in each discourse community. Besides, I have learned how to effectively use my free time to prepare for the class discourse community by taking my time to identify some of the issues that we need to address in the discourse community. By being in relevant discourse communities, I am sure to emerge as a social expert in solving various social problems. This is because I can share my experience with various members of my group and come up with the best way of solving such problems.
Question # 2
From the video profiles of the Secret life of scientist and Engineer, I have chosen Simon Sign (PBS). He had a Ph.D. in physics an indication that he was a physics lover whereby he managed to bridge the gap between different discourses communities. However, after pursuing his degree in physics, he realized that there were many brilliant students who were even brighter than him in the field.

Therefore, he decided to be unique from them by doing something different (PBS). He strived to become a science journalist with BBC television. While working with BBC, he met various scientists such as Stephen Hawkins who encouraged him to become a scientific writer. Therefore, he abandoned his journalism job to concentrate on writing books since he realized that they are many hidden factors behind some of the major inventions by scientists in the world (PBS).
From Simon Sign experience, he managed to bridge the gap between his two discourse communities which are, being a scientist and a journalist. He achieved this by using his scientific knowledge to become a science journalist, and later became a writer. His success can be attributed to his tactic of identifying how his knowledge can relate to other professions by integrating his ideas with other professions. He has also managed to be successful by sharing with other scientists who gave him advice on how he can balance his interests while pursuing other things.
