Three-Component Model of Creativity
Creativity refers to the process through which something valuable or new is formed. Products of creativity can be tangible such as a painting or invention as well as intangible such as an idea, theory, or a joke. Various models provide diverse ways in which one can understand the art of creativity. Creativity, according to the three-component model, incorporates expertise, creative skills in thinking, and intrinsic motivation for tasks. According to Lu (61), the three component model of creativity provides a framework through which one can identify the factors that affect the successful processes of creating new things. In such a context, he argues that three components originate from within the individual while one lies in the environment in which they operate (Lu 58). The internal factors create the three-component model, which suggest that successful creativity depends on whether one has the required skills, is motivated enough to engage in the involved processes and the knowledge of the processes involved.
In expertise, one needs to have enough knowledge, abilities, and proficiencies. Creativity requires one to think beyond what they have in terms of knowledge, equipment, and time. A successful creative process makes sure that each resource produces the best outcome possible (Baer 65). Expertise can also involve the knowledge on how one should use the available information and equipment to develop a new idea or concept.

Creative thinking skills, on the other hand, incorporate the ability of an individual to display personal characteristics that are in line with creativity.
