On the historical context, Dorothy tells the rest of the Christians not to call her a saint, and that she doesn’t want to be easily dismissed. What Dorothy meant by these words is that she was not yet through with her God-given task in the world. She, therefore, wanted the other Christians to seek and know God so that they could live holy lives.
Dorothy’s journey to Catholicism began with a variety of relationships with men when she was in college. This happened when she eventually realized that the one affair she had involved herself in was misdirecting her (St-Amant, et al., 427). It is then that she made up her mind to follow Christ and became a staunch Catholic follower, where she achieved her dreams of Christianity with the help of peter Maurine.
The ‘onion’ story, teaches Christians not to live a selfish life. The woman was not ready to allow other sinners to acquire salvation from God. Therefore she considered herself righteous an act that led to her downfall at long last.
Chapter 5 of Lazarus relates to Dorothy’s work on behalf of the needy people in the society. In page758 and 759,’Then Jesus said; Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I mentioned this for the benefit of the people standing before me’. This context relates to Dorothy’s mercy for the less fortunate in the society.
