Effective communication for sexual health.

“Health and HIV / AIDS Communication campaigns developed in Cúcuta by public actors and civil society organizations between 2013 and 2015” degree project presented by Villamizar, J. (2016) at the Francisco de Paula Santander University where three health communication campaigns focused on HIV prevention and AIDS and the reduction of discrimination surrounding this disease are intended. These campaigns were executed by public institutions of Cúcuta between 2013 and 2015.

The objectives of this macroproject: describe the communication campaigns for health and HIV/AIDS, determine the theories implicit in the design and execution of the communication campaigns for health and HIV/AIDS and finally, establish the appropriations in terms ofKnowledge, attitude and behavior that audiences make of health and HIV/AIDS communication campaigns developed in Cúcuta by public actors. 

The project carried out was a given experience within the line of communication for social change, through a qualitative approach, 15 semi-structured interviews were conducted to different members of the key populations (men who have sex with men, trans women,People who live with HIV, sex workers, and street inhabitants), these members were selected at convenience and were a beneficiary of the campaign.

It was possible to identify three campaigns ‘different people, equal rights’, ‘Enroll against all kinds of stigma and discrimination’ and ‘Only you decide’, which during those years promoted and disseminated, mainly, the prevention of HIV, the realization of the testvolunteer and decreased stigma and discrimination.

‘Different people, equal rights’, ‘List against all kinds of stigma and discrimination’ and ‘Only you decide’. It is also recommended to implement the prevention of HIV in these vulnerable communities, carry out strategies to reduce the discrimination index and to be able to address other people more easily, who do not have fear of being related to the virus.

Finally, the Horizon of Youth from artistic workshops and scenario design, young people in Villa del Rosario were trained in reproductive sexual rights and comprehensive care services. It was known that the population wants the activities to continue in the city, because thanks to these, they changed their habits and strengthened knowledge in sexuality practices. It is important to generate communication actions that promote community participation and the phenomena caused by little knowledge and bad practices in sexual and reproductive health are reduced.
