Introduction to Family Policy
Families are affected by economic, political, and social policies. The concept of family policy, however, refers to the public directives, social laws, and programs that are aimed at promoting and enhancing marriage, reproduction, and care of children. The family policy also entails the protection and support of children and spouse as well as providing mechanisms for solving disputes in the family framework. The policies are usually initiated by the state. However, some nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) may focus on the development of programs and initiatives that favor the basic family unit. Such agencies are required to enforce the requirements, especially through child welfare organizations. This paper reviews resources from the internet to establish the various dynamics of the family policy.
The first resource is the Family Impact Institute (FII) that seeks to use research to develop family policies. FII provides both the policymakers and professionals with objective research that is solution oriented to address the various problems affecting the citizens. The Institute offers seminars that can be used to establish the greater use and build evidence necessary for decision-making. Similarly, FII offers resources to practitioners to aid in the undertaking of research on the family issues as well as a framework for the dissemination of findings.
The second resource is the National Partnership for Women and Families that advocates for the advancement of the major policy that affects women and families.
