Sigmund Freud stands out as a famous psychologist because he advanced a theory that aimed at explaining how the subconscious affects human behavior. His life began on the sixth day of May the year 1856 when he was born to parents of Jewish origin. Freud’s parents came from the present day Ukraine and his father was a wool merchant by profession. Surprisingly, Freud’s mother, Amalia Nathansohn was married in the year 1855 as Jakob Freud’s third wife. Freud started his career in Vienna General Hospital one year after graduating. Cerebral Anatomy centered most of his research while at the facility and he also carried out research to establish the palliative impacts of cocaine. Freud made a major contribution to psychology by developing a theory that shows how the subconscious influences human behavior. Freud further advanced a clinical approach to helping individuals that are unhappy. Sigmund died in the ninth month of 1936.

Freud stands out as a famous psychologist because he advanced a theory that aimed at explaining how the subconscious affects human behavior. His life began on the sixth day of May the year 1856 when he was born to parents of Jewish origin. Freud’s parents came from the present day Ukraine and his father was a wool merchant by profession. Surprisingly, Freud’s mother, Amalia Nathansohn was married in the year 1855 as Jakob Freud’s third wife.

Freud was born to the couple one year later and had a caul that Amalia thought to be a blessing in disguise. Indeed, the caul was a blessing since Freud emerged as one the best psychologist in the universe. Freud managed to secure a place at the University of Vienna when he was seventeen years of age (“Sigmund Freud – Freudian Psychology – Psychologist World” n.p.). He had plans of pursuing law, but he ended up in the medical faculty where he majored in philosophy, zoology, and physiology. Freud graduated in the year 1881and started his career in 1882. Additionally, Freud was a master of language since he was proficient in Italian, Spanish, English, Hebrew, Greek, Latin, German and English.
Career and Marriage
Freud started his career in Vienna General Hospital one year after graduating. Cerebral Anatomy centered most of his research while at the facility and he also carried out research to establish the palliative impacts of cocaine. Freud resigned in the 1886 and began a private profession specializing in nervous disorders. At twenty-four years, Freud began smoking because he claimed tobacco enhanced his thinking but it affected his health. Freud married Martha Bernays the same year he quit his job. The couple had six children, but unfortunately, Martha died in the year 1896. There have been rumors that Freud had an affair with Minna Bernays who was Martha’s sister because she became a member of the household after the death of Martha.
Achievements
Freud made a major contribution to psychology by developing a theory that shows how the subconscious influences human behavior. Freud further advanced a clinical approach to helping individuals that are unhappy. Freud’s theory of psychosexual development has faced much criticism but despite that he did a great job showing how behavior develops depending on the influencing age of development. He became an associate professor in 1902. In the year 1920, the University of Vienna appointed Freud as a professor. Freud was awarded the Goethe Prize for Literature in the year 1930 (“Psychology History” n.p.). During his career, most of his research findings were published making a major contributor in psychology. In the year 1908, Freud founded the Viennese Association of Psychoanalysis. In 1933, Freud’s book was set on fire in Berlin. Freud achieved more despite facing criticism from the modern day psychologists because his findings formed a base for further research on psychology.
Later life and death
Freud began smoking at twenty-four years hence contributing to his ailment. Freud was diagnosed with cancer in the year 1923 resulting from his cigarette that later developed into cigar smoking. In 1936, he had the first cancer recurrence, and in 1938 cancer recurred, but he could not be operated. Freud left Vienna in 1938 when the Nazis invaded the area. Freud moved to London after running away from the Nazi invasion. Freud died on the twenty-third day of September 1936. In conclusion, Freud stands out as the greatest psychologist for advancing theories that paved the way for further research in psychology.
