Chris Gardner- pursuit of happiness
Chris Gardner is a man trying to make ends meet in the greatest of all struggles. He has valiant attempts to ensure that his family needs are catered. The mother of his five-year-old son, Christopher, buckles under the constant financial strain. Eventually, she is unable to cope and opts to leave. Gardner is left in the care of his son. As a single father, Gardner continues to pursue his job by the use of every sales skill he possibly can. He eventually runs out of finances to pay for his housing and is forced into a homeless lifestyle. An opportunity comes by as he lands an internship at prestigious stocks brokering company. However, this internship comes without a salary. His hope with the job is that he will eventually end the program having landed a well-paying job and a promising future. Meanwhile, he and his son are forced to sleep in shelters or public bathrooms as a refuge for the night. Despite all these challenges, he honors his commitment to being a loving and hardworking father. He obtains the energy to carry on from the trust and affection placed to him by his son.
The role suits Chris Gardner in the film since was raised as a fatherless infant. The vows that symbolized his presence in the life of his child become vivid in the film, pursuit of happiness. In the film, he is seen to be caught in a storm of endless bad luck, and he becomes homeless. All in all, he can still take care of his son while he is still in pursuit of a highly competitive and unpaid internship as a stock broker trainee.

The events in the movie fully portray the challenges Christopher Gardner went through while he was homeless. The eventual outcome of the film reveals his worth as a stock broker and proud father.
An African American man having being abandoned by his own father during infancy is caught up in a challenge of trying to be the father he wanted. He eventually succeeds as a stock broker. The film has an excellent message to its viewers that there exists a significant importance of keeping one’s cool once faced with intense disappointments as well as provocations. The character in the film becomes a master of his own emotions and comes up as a gracious personality even after receiving serous backward blows. Through the film’s portrayal of the main character the viewers obtain a perspective of the people involved in its making as well as the methods in which opportunities were created for Gardner (Teachwithmovies 2).
At the time Gardner was in pursuit of his internship his girlfriend left him and taken away his son. Gardner looked for them and failed to find them. As soon as he passed his test with the broker firm his girlfriend appeared to drop of their son. Gardner had the option of working for other brokers and earned himself decent housing. However, he had a view of spending much of his time building his clientele since this was a simpler method of enabling himself to become wealthier faster as opposed to working for somebody else. Accordingly, Gardner was unable to provide a place to live for a year or two by making that decision. At the moment he was faced with a dilemma of providing housing for his son or putting his dreams first and trying to build that clientele base he wanted. In the film, he decided to subject his son to the dangers of homelessness which are proof that he had the potential of putting his interests first before the safety of his child.
A vital scene in the movie is the washroom scene. The reason for this conclusion is that this scene marks the lowest point of Chris Gardner’s and his son’s life. This scene culminates the crisis that started with Linda leaving them, and Chris decides to go to New York City in the ‘pursuit of happiness.’ He then becomes homeless. At this lowest point, the two are living on the street and sleep on a public restroom that is located in some subway station in New York. In this scene, Chris Gardner lays down toilet paper from the public restroom so that his son could sleep. At the same time, he braces himself against the restroom’s door to present the thugs that are forcefully trying to go into the bathroom. He has to give out all the strength that he has to protect the little space that he has managed to get to sleep for the sake of his son (Pursuit of Happyness). This scene is indeed very moving.
The fatalist in the film later suffers from depression and a sense of desperation. At some points in the movie, we see Chris looking up to other individuals and in pity, wondering why he is not as happy as them. An example of this is the scene where Chris is outside Wall Street looking at stoke brokers as they walk out of the building. He then wonders to himself stating, “They all looked so damn happy to me. Why couldn’t I look like that? ” (Pursuit of Happyness). With regard to desperation, a scene that resonated with me was when Chris was making his calls, and he was meant to start at the bottom level in the company he was working for and work his way up the hierarchy of the company. Nonetheless, in desperation for results, Chris skipped to the top.
Many points in the movie revealed Chris’s personality and physical transformation. With regards to personality, we see that Chris was resourceful, had an analytical mind and believed in himself. We see that he is resourceful by the way he mended the machine by himself and sold it out for a profit, which he utilized for his survival. We also see that Chris has an analytical mind in many instances in the movie. One of these instances is how he managed to figure out the rubrics cube. Rather than Chris randomly attempting to figure out the rubrics cube, he managed to understand how the cube worked first. This is a real show of his analytical skills, skills that he applied to his job. Lastly, we also see that he has self-belief in himself in that he does not let the limitations he has to affect the dreams and goals that he has. Despite Chris being lowly educated, black and poor, he was still certain that he would turn out to be a lucky stoke trader, even if the industry was dominated by well-educated individuals who were white.
In a nutshell, under similar situations, many individuals would have given up. Nonetheless, Chris did not give up; he fought to the end. The term “Happyness,” in the film’s title was not written in that manner unintentionally; it was supposed to be symbolic, to stand out. The “y” is there for a reason; it’s meant to show that happiness is subjective, it’s different to every individual. All the same, the pursuit of happiness is one of the best films I have ever seen.
