Her main influence and inspiration come for Martin Luther King Junior, who was among the activists. However, she sets herself to write the memoir that incorporates her life story as well as the story of other activists who struggled to strengthen the lives of people. The tale of Patricia relates with that of Tananarive, her daughter who has won American book award. Afterward, Tananarive, her daughter grew up and enmeshed deeply in the family’s value of making right that seemed to go wrong. She also grew with the objective of saving people and enlightening them of their rights. Patricia and her daughter have tried to explain the challenges that people used to face in the Civil Rights era height. As a result of their effort, they have invested much of their time and resources writing to create awareness to both the people of their country and other nations.
However, they have revealed the struggles of a spanning mother-daughter journey. The story started in 1960 when Patricia was a student. She studied at Florida A&M University where she and her sister Priscilla joined the movement of agitating for people’s right. The approach was not easy. They faced problems like “jail-in” when student protested for their rights. It was an alternative that they preferred rather than paying fine. The book shows the love and compassion that Patricia, her sister, and other activists had on people’s lives.

It is clearly indicated from the story that they spent forty-nine days in prison rather than compensating for their “crime.” It shows how courageous they are; paying for the “crime” shows fear of expression that helps in agitating for the civil rights of humanity. In particular, Patricia worked with her husband in different movements that agitated for the civil rights of a different human kind. Their main target was to see some changes in the southern part of Florida.
Also, Patricia and her husband worked with other leaders like Kwame Ture, who was considered a hero by all people due to his acts of sweeping all the limitation to civil rights as a way of solving people’s problems. Patricia and her daughter writing show how America has been overtaken by cases of injustice, discrimination and disparities for whites and blacks about healthcare matters, employment, education, and criminal justice that exists even in the current world. On one hand, Patricia writes to keep records of her experiences and attempts to ensure there is civil liberty among citizens.
Also, she writes to make sure other people emulate her actions in the modern world and follow her footsteps in fighting for civil rights. On the other hand, her daughter writes to express gratitude to people and to show them how great it has been to fight for civil rights. Moreover, it is a way of showing the remaining work that heads on helping all human being to live in peace and harmony. However, their combined message has been organized to yield an important, remarkable and moving trend that promises a better future for all people around the world. It shows that people’s safety is on the hands of individuals who believe in change and takes an action of implementing such change.
