Global Citizenship
Global citizenship is a lifestyle that identifies the world in a progressive platform of interconnections and interdependencies. Global citizenship allows people to be considerate about the repercussions of actions done in communities, nationally and internationally (Green 1). This culture motivates respect between different parties regardless of where they live. It also drives people to think through the justice and equality lenses to reduce harm in the universe. When people think through the global citizenship perspective, they tend to learn to be more confident, stand for what they believe in and acquire more skills in evaluating the impact of their choices.
Becoming a global citizen is a choice and is hence different from national citizenship. It is upon an individual to decide on whether to pursue this path, which involves adopting a lifestyle of crosscutting various communities, regions, and nationalities (Green 1). Therefore, it is possible to become a global citizen since an individual only needs to embrace humanity everywhere despite the differences that may appear. However, being a global citizen does not mean that we fail to embrace things that are still vital to us such as loving and appreciating our countries besides appreciating humanity beyond our states.
Some of the examples of global citizenship today include discovering a cause that one cares about in a bid to support various issues, making a difference, and having a new understanding of one’s function in the world.

This can be done by volunteering in a variety of nonprofits to get first-hand information or by joining social groups that participate in regional and international courses. This helps boost global citizenship and builds relations among people (Edwards and Gaventa 14). Secondly, one can take part in social entrepreneurship, which aims at formulating groundbreaking solutions to different social problems. Today, most companies around the world have developed initiatives with a goal of making a difference in the global community and promoting their international brands. More so, individuals can engage in social courses by civically participating in a given project or becoming leaders in regional or global companies.
Finally, one can become a global citizen by participating in platforms that develop sustainable solutions. As such, this move requires people to create and stick to long-term goals. Most initiatives do not realize change instantly, but they make a significant impact on their progress towards their goal. For instance, most of the millennium development goals have not been achieved entirely but have made vast improvements in various sectors (Edwards and Gaventa 15). Therefore, global citizens should aim at developing long-term and sustainable goals to make a difference in the world.
